Which reminds I'd asked a question to the pundits on this thread but it was overlooked.
Since you mentioned mp's, if in uncompressed RAW but in crop mode how many pixels will
the A7Rii deliver?
Not that I need to know, just curious for our upcoming eagle trip where I'll be pitting the A7Rii + LAEA3 + Tam 150-600 against
a Canon 7Dii + 1.4TC + 400DOii.

for families with small kids, i would probably go with the 90mm for the AF. but if i pose them with the parents, i might go with the 135 pentax.

yep BC is an incredible place to live. Us fortunate enough to travel through several times visiting parks, on the way to the Columbia Icefields, generally tooling out of Vancouver or Vic Island. In fact I was showing pic of NZ to a co-worker and he said NZ was surely the most beautiful place I'd been. I told him no, the most beautiful place I'd been was BC and Alberta. Color me jealous

ya vic island is gods land,beautiful over there,in the okanogan where i live we can snow ski and water ski in the same day in july. we have mountains in the 6500-7500ft range and stunning lakes. all within minutes drive from where i am. having 4 true seasons is great to. i couldn't live in a cement city with 2 seasons,hot and hotter.

nice looking forwards to the results. especially with the manual focus lenses,when u show your work with a manual focus lens it just demands more respect. auto focus is fine but when u nail focus ur self its different

I have to admit I think the olives are my favorite part of a martini. Just to note, the droplets on the bar top in the Tanqueray shot were put there purposefully so that the shot wouldn't look too 'set up'.

for you, i will try to use the 135mm as much as possible or even the 200mm pentax f2.5 that i have.

With the Pentax 135mm F2.5 wide open...

Nice one Vinz. Have you tried using texture layers and different blending modes? Here's a quick example using an old paper texture and crackalique.

hmm maybe for the back ground but portraits like this sharp beauty need to be kept sharp.

agree. I add textures only on backgrounds. if you look closely Gene, I already added textures to the background. here's the SOOC.

The A7RII with a Canon 50L. Cropped to square and straightened and I still have more megapickles left over than either of my Canon bodies. Yeah, I'm loving it.

What a fantastic shot!

I've been so busy at work that I haven't had much desire to sit at the computer at night and process my pics from DTLA. Still have some to go through. Stay tuned.

Good news (kinda). The Tamron 150-600 in A mount has shipped. If UPS does it's job it will on next week's trip.
I don't have high hopes shooting BIFs with the A7Rii but why not give it a go.

Still trying to figure how many megapixels I'll have to work with shooting uncompressed raw in crop mode.
My guess is around 34 megapixels

And did anyone look to see if the 5 fps went down in uncompressed and by how much?

compressed vs uncompressed doesn't change the amount of megapixels. Crop mode on the a7rii is 18MP if shooting 3:2 (16:9 is 15MP). Uncompressed just results in a larger file size but same megapixels. Just like non crop mode is 42MP regardless of compression settings

My external battery pack finally arrived. The photo below shows the basic setup. The battery pack when fully charged is equivalent to over 8 standard batteries. For safety I used a voltage regulator to reduce the 9V output down to 7.4V (9V would have probably been fine but didnt want to chance it). Ive put the CV40 and FE 55 in the shot just for scale. I plan on installing the voltage regulator into a project enclosure like the one seen on the left (only smaller) so that when out using it I will only have 2 black boxes and a wire coming out with the dummy battery. I also plan on getting a waterproof bag/pouch of some sort (maybe neoprene) so that I can hang it from my tripod hook with all the components inside.

Purpose - Landscape shooting without having to worry about power, star trail photos, maybe timelapse and hopefully less heat noise when shooting high iso astro stuff (My thoughts are that its the internal battery that causes the heat and the noise).
