Love the 1.4x for "slow" or stationary targets.
I have to admit there is less IQ loss using it than cropping but when you post most people would never know it. I'm having too much fun with all the focusing options but I don't mind centre point/expansion if I have to.
Great for stationary like you say which will be my primary use at 560mm. Canon says you need to include the crop factor in the formula so it is 784.
Easy to track this with the centre point.
