I think the ND helps the highlights from getting blown out as well as letting you exposure for longer fireworks explosions, I also believe that it keeps the lens in the sweet spot as well. Dropping down to F22 is not good for sharpness, That last shot was shot at F6.3 for 40 seconds at iso100

Yeah I had a 30 second exposure of that last blast and blew out the shot. Will bring an ND next time. Thanks for the tips!

this is off the charts good - bravo - love it

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Thanks for the comments fellas!

The DR of the Sony FF sensors is simply unbelievable. This was taken in London, England at ISO 8000 (although EXIF for this site says 6400 -- doesn't give me the option to change it to 8000) and the alley was dark on the original RAW file not far beyond the artist.

Man, this thread is busy. :)

A shot of my girls stargazing in their p.j.s after dinner the other night. Even though we had an almost full moon they were not going to be deterred.
Taken with an adapted Sigma 35 Art.

Seems you put the 35 1.7 to good use. I like your recent pictures and the edit on this one is fantastic. Looks classic, almost like film
