I'm an ex-Navy vet who wishes he'd volunteered for sub duty. Oh well. All I can do now is read about them and shoot them!

USS Cobia, Manitowoc Wisconsin.

When I was young, I saw the U-505 (external link) in Lake Michigan before it went to the Museum of Science & Industry. Wish I had images of that now.

...wishes he'd volunteered for sub duty.

Locked up in a little room with a bunch of horny guys for months? I don't think so! ; D

Oh I'm well aware of that threat. In the surface fleet our joke was "subs - 100 sailors go under water, 50 couples come up". :) But I'm reading the history of WWII subs right now and the likes of Dick O'Kane and the ghost of Mush Morton call to me.

Here we go. The sleek USS Albuquerque berthed in Brisbane, Australia in July 2011. There was an exclusion zone around her patrolled by armed guards (USA military).

I understand that this exclusion zone is considered to be USA territory?

Cheers

Dennis

Not sure about the exclusion zone being US territory. I know sub stuff is touchy. I walked by a sub in Norfolk and got a cold glare from those on watch.

As a former sub sailor I must categorically deny that rumor. It just isn't true.

There were always a few crew members that were either too ugly or too mean to make a hook up.
