I might be mistaken, but I thought the panning update just turned vc off when it sensed panning action so you wouldn't have to turn it off by hand. I could be wrong though.

I am not sure if it turns off both or a single axis (like the Canon solution does).

Heya,

I have not done the firmware update. My lens is very sharp, it seems to do everything the way it should. Though I do not pan at low shutter speeds, and I tend to turn off VC when I'm trying to track a panning bird in flight anyways. My lens just doesn't get the down time to be sent off for a few weeks. :P

Very best,

Interesting hear Peter, perhaps I won't bother with that upgrade then.

Yup I won't send it Lester if I were you.

Yeah, mine is sharp again right now, my only lens too so it's not going in till something else goes wrong.

I sent mine about 2 months ago for the latest firmware update that issued on May this year about turning the VC on while panning and to be honest I hope I did not sent it for that, I should have kept the old firmware with my lens. On static shots handheld I get sharp images with both of my 7D and 1Dmk2 but when panning on fast shutter while panning and VC on I get more blurry images. I wonder if the firmware upgrade is just for panning in slow shutter speed and has to turn the VC on. I thought the new firmware will help on bird in flight but it did not. So it is waste of my shipping money. But at least they dust it off ;)

I just saw this. I was already very reluctant of sending the lens for a firmware upgrade, now I am sure I will not! Will just be using the old good method of turning the VC off when shooting BIF.

A few BIF. The combination of the 7DmkII and the Tamron is really great and really really enjoyable.

Wow. How did you do that? I would buy it now too if I could get that price.

Yea! I finally get to play in this thread! I got my lens Friday and we are still getting used to each other. I'm learning high iso and fast shutter works best. The buck was taken with my 7D and was one of the first I took and is softer than I hoped. The eagle I took this afternoon on my 5Dc and is much more to my liking, sharpness wise. CC/tips/suggestions gladly accepted...

Congratulations on the new toy! On the buck image I notice you shot wide open at 600mm. Your dof is going to be very narrow there. I would MFA the lens and stop it down 1 or 2 stops and see if that helps. I shoot the 7d1 too. Don't be afraid to raise your ISO to 1600 or 2000. Expose to the right about 2/3s of a stop and noise will be minimal. Look on the 7d thread for ways to combat noise, there has been several posts lately on it. Have fun!
