Depends what you call your originals, I don't really consider my on card images the originals (even though they really are), but rather the main copy on my computer the original. That being said, I typical don't format my cards, until after I've gone through and edit pictures, and either delivered photos to client, or uploaded them to to Flickr. This way I at least have decent quality edited jpeg backups.

I also typically use my cameras that have dual card slots for important stuff which reduces risk furthur. It is still quite possible I could format both cards thinking my images are safe on ym computer, but normally having to format the second triggers me to double check they are safe on my computer.

It would come down a lot to your shooting style, But i'd be unlikely to use more then 8-16gb a day shooting RAW while travelling, I'd also prefer having 2-4 large cards, then having to manage tonnes of small cards.

Sure carrying a card for each day frees up valuable time at night copying your photos to external drives & a laptop, but for peace of mind, I'd rather waste that time than go home empty handed, after spending thousands of dollars on flights, accommodation, food & all those hours taking photographs.

I usually back up the cards at night to a USB drive. And we tend to not have all of our cards with us while shooting.

The only reason I shoot on 32gb cards is that we got a screaming deal on the cards, basically 32gb for the cost of 16gb.

Managing the cards is really not an issue.

Welcome to the club Trevor. I'm sure you will love the 6D. I used that same camera / lens combo to create the following panorama (from a few pages back in this thread):

Annie, I always love your pictures. I used to live down the road from a guy that raised the Highlands. Always thought they were a cool looking animal.

Trevor, welcome. I've no doubt you're loving it. Nice kit.

Thanks. I went back and forth on the tilt thing. I never got it where I liked it all across the photo. I think some of it's from the distortion on the 16-35. I'm playing around with stitching so I can print bigger, but I'm thinking a 50mm would work better for that. If I do anything else with this shot I'll work on it some more.
