A New Bare Bulb Flash Arrives

Do you know if I can charge the pack while using it?
Does it actually charge or cut off as soon as you turn on the ad360?

I asked this before and everyone said it was a bad idea.

Does anyone know where you buy the Godox standard reflector diffuser cap seperately?

Just used my Streaklight 360 on a job and I can't say enough great things about it. I had it mounted to the hotshoe the whole time and I barely missed a shot. Fast recycle time, and super powerful. I was shooting at 1/4 power at 1/125 F 3.5 the whole time bouncing the bare bulb with the frosted plastic cover off of the ceiling. My only complaints were that with a 70-200 and this mounted to the hot shoe, it was a very heavy camera day. I'm also still perfecting having a battery pack to carry around the whole time too.

Overall, EXTREMELY pleased. This is essentially straight out of camera. ISO 500 on a Canon 6D.

I'm sure they're not the only source, but CheetahStand sells the 5-inch reflector with diffuser.

Very nice result. And now you also know why it's referred to as a super-flash.

I have to be honest, though... I'm not sure why you'd prefer to use a super-flash like the AD-360 in this configuration over a typical flash. For the type of shot you produced here, I regularly produce this sort of result with a Nikon SB-910 at maybe 1/8 +0.3 power. Much lighter and less bulky. I've always preferred to have the AD-360 on stands rather than mounted to the camera.

Nevertheless, it's good you're enjoying your investment. It's a great system for its ease of use and flexibility.

I went this route for two reasons

1 - new toy, had to put it through it's paces
2 - when I've shot with my 600ex II in a fast paced situation like a wedding or event, I hate to miss a shot because of recycle time. With this connected to the battery pack I get a much faster recycle time and I can shoot at a lower power value and lower ISO to get cleaner shots.

Typically I do more portraits, work on location and in studio where I'll be using this soon to be mounted to a cheetah speed pro MKII bracket and a bowens octabox for my main light. The ability to adjust the power on the fly is a huge plus over my current alien bee set up and HSS outdoors via Yongnuo 622s is pretty awesome as well. Looking forward to working more with it.

BTW - shot this whole event plus a couple of studio sessions and my battery pack still has 50% battery left. Pretty impressive!

Yeah, the batteries are insane. I charged the first one and did all my testing and experimenting, and it still reads full (needless to say not the same as an intensive gig, but if it was AA batteries in a speedlight, they'd be pretty much done)

The second unit arrived and before I plugged in the charger, i discovered it had about 75% full charge out of the box. Nice.

Has the 360 been tested VS the Ranger Quadra for power output dose the 360 match the Quadra for matching the sun for mid day shooting.
I have a 360 on the way and have a Quadra i have been using for years to just wanted to see if this has been tested or compared before.

I sold all my elinchrom quadras and now I only use the 360 and the cl-600. The 360 was about the same power and less bulk and weight. If your running the old quadra batteries it like night and day with the 360, but if your using the new lipo batteries then the 360 recycle time is slower. Nice thing about the 360 if your running 2 you don't have to deal with the 2:1 ratio.
The pro s brackets are alot cheaper then the Quadra brackets. The new 360 has TTL (not a fan of TTL) but it works great. The only draw back is the new triggers dont work with the older 360's. You can run the old trigger on top of the x-1 and get them to fire the older version. I just hate have a stack of triggers on my camera. You can run the txp threw the sync port with the x-1 on top or use slave on the older 360 and they will fire.

Thats good to see if that is the case i will end up selling the Quadra and buy a second 360 or 180 and some 850s i think it is they make and other stuff. i ordered the 12 inch BD for it today.
My Quarda has been a workhorse for years i had one head catch on fire shooting on the beach i had to toss it in the ocean but i has been a great system but always heavy i am ready for something lite i do have the older heavy one.
I say it is heavy but the Quadra is nothing compared to the full size ranger i was using before the Quadra that is like taking a car battery with you everyplace. I shot on the beach for many years.

Also any good info on using this on Sony cameras and getting HSS? i am trying to switch from Nikon to Sony not so easy so far.

Like yourself, I do not prefer TTL. It has its uses in some rare situations, but those are very rare for me. I actually enjoy shooting all manual whenever possible, even for event shooting.

The new triggers are sold under the brand Godox and in time also by someone else.

The CL-360/180 work fine in H mode with Sony A7II and A7RII using a Pixel King trigger to implement FP-sync on the camera. The Pixel King receiver is connected to the light via a PC cable with mini-jack. I have a CL-Tx Pro coming so I can test to see if it will work to fire multiple lights when connected to the Pixel King receiver via the PC cable. I suppose it would also work to get a Sony proprietary hotshoe adapter with a standard hot shoe with center pin.

The CL-600 also works with the Pixel King trigger to do Hyper Sync.

I tested to 1/8000 second shutter speed with both without a problem or black.

I've also seen video showing that the Phoenix Odin works as well. It has the additional benefit of being able to adjust the FP-sync timing to optimize exposure from the flash tail.

I can confirm that the Phottix Odin also works as David stated.

The x-1 can't control the non ttl / old versions of the 360 or the v850 or the v860 or the 600. The trigger works great with the ttl 360 Version only and the new v800 series.
