I'll just mention, because no-one else has, that it may take a few days to get used to it. Once you do though, you'll wonder, like others have said, why they ever put focus control on the shutter button. Be the person your dog thinks you are.

I like knowing that the focus is fixed instead of accidentally lifting my finger a hair off the shutter and then having the camera refocus when I go to take the shot, resulting in the camera focusing somewhere where I didn't intend.

When using BBF I notice an increased tendency to get blurry pics from camera shake as I "slap" that shutter button to get images. Well, I'll take the bait, it does appear that BBF is not best for you. We should not argue that. However, as you stated, it looks like the issue you have is far from a universal one. GEAR LIST

Until my health deteriorated badly I was an instructor with the local Air cadet unit. One of the things I did was take the photos at many of the events. At one event on of the youngsters wanted to have a go with the camera, so i let him pick it up and have a play. When the AF didn't operate when he pushed the shutter button he asked, but as a challenge I told him to figure it out for himself. It didn't take much button pushing at all for him to figure it out. I tend to find that most people can actually manage to push two buttons in order to take a photo, especially if you show them what is required. My Flickr
