Thanks Levina. I always knew that I out grew the Xti, so I'm happy to have something better for sure. I really would like to get 1 or 2 better lenses to step it up a bit more, possibly a 24-70mm or the 135 f2. I don't make much money shooting pictures as I'm not much of a businessman so it's harder to justify expenses for a hobby. I do take lots of pictures for people, they just don't value the service for what it is. At least when I do a fun outing with my kids it makes my investment worth it,,,, to me.
I struggle with the same thing, Chet. Good glass is wonderful but also expensive. It's also the reason I wait so long, going back and forth, thinking, rethinking, looking for deals etc, before I spend those 1000 or whatever euro. It's a problem.
Over on flickr there's a bird photographer from California who has all the big white lenses as well as the cameras and the rest. I did a little sum the other day and it amounted to some 65,000 dollars. I wonder what it would be like to have so much money that you can just go out and buy it. Right now, even if I had, say 12,000 euro for a 600/4L lens e.g., the mere thought of going out to shoot birds with such an expensive piece of gear would have me hyperventilate!
