I use the 85LII with a7Rii, and I can confirm that is one sick combo. As we all know, 85LII is already slow to focus on Canon cameras and it is no different when mounted on a7Rii (meaning it focuses in native speed lol). Despite it being somewhat slow (but fast enough in most situations), I had absolutely zero problem using it in real life. The IQ is just fantastic and sharpness at 1.2 is just as good as when using it on my Canon. The resolution power of a7Rii really shines with the 85LII.

I am however waiting for the new Sony 85mm release. I wanted the Batis 85 but might need to wait for Sony announcement first. Ever since getting the Batis 25mm, I am really appreciating the size and weight advantage when compared to Canon 24mm 1.4LII + Metabones.

Unless you already own an 85LII, I'd wait for the Sony 85mm release first.. But if you can't wait, I don't really think you can go wrong with the 85LII.

I agree with these observations as well, I currently use it on a A7R2, focus is slow but really just the same as when I shot it on the Canon. The look out of the lens is certainly unique. Specular highlights are susecptible to PF when shot wide open however.

Agree with all the above posts! Amazing lens with slow AF; however, it is more accurate on the A7RII than on any other body I have used including 1DX.

Having said that, if you are using it for the A series cameras I recommend the batis or possibly wait for the upcoming sony 85mm due to AF speed and sheer size of the lens. I don't miss f1.2 although f1.4 would be very nice.

Definitely get the Canon 85L II. There is no other lens like it, worth every ounce in gold. The sheer amount of glass and density make it sit firmly in the palm of your hand and defy one's expectation of its perceived weight... You can spend hours on end just looking through the bare lens, a bright oculus of light, marveling at the rear element so close to the face of lens mount that it could burst any second. Did I even mention about its razor-thin depth of field and the smoothest bokeh? One shot nailed at f/1.2 and you're hooked for life. Shhhh... listen... can you hear the lens calling out your name?

I had the 135L and in the right conditions it would produce wow shots with its bokeh. I felt the 50L had that magic too. The 85L is the only one untested...

I'm no portrait guy, so an 85mm is not even on my radar of wants, but I do like the Batis.

I like the look of the Batis too but the price just makes me think its not worth it. Its too close to the 85L II price. I think the sensible thing for me to do is wait for the Sony 85 and see how that sits price and performance wise (either that or say screw it and get the 85 L)

If you don't need autofocus you might want to consider the FD version.

It was a very slow evening.... dreamy bokeh from the Canon 50 0.95 a lens introduced in the early sixties.
