There is certainly a lot of admiration you get from cupping the 85L in your hands. Lots of glass in that sucker. Is it worth the GAS experimentation? I think so, it's a unique unicorn, and at least it's a lot more accessible than the 200L for instance. If you like shooting the 85 focal length, it's a nice lens to try. In terms of pure look of an image, 50mm 1.8 -> 50mm 1.2 didnt seem as dramatic as 85mm 1.8 -> 85mm 1.2. The indoors background butchering the 1.2 does is insane.
I'de go the batis route personally because shooting the 85L feels like a literal brick in your hands. Go outside, and pick up a brick, and that's what the 85L feels like 

Canon does really have amazing bokeh on their top portrait lenses (50L, 85L II, 135L, 200L IS). So smooth.
