I searched the archives back 6 months and couldn't find a thread. There's probably one in there somewhere, but I couldn't locate it. I'll start simple with a couple of shots of USCGC Mellon (WHEC-717), steaming out of San Diego.

Nice pictures of the USS Nassau, I'm a Marine, that was deployed with Harriers a couple of times back in the early '80's. I was also deployed on the USS Iwo Jima and Saipan. I may have some pics of some of the CV-## class Aircraft Carriers following. I just moved and don't know where they might be in the house. If I dig them up I will post then.

Nassau was decommissioned in 2011,. Looks like this photo was taken before then, so fits the category of "active" at the time it was taken :)

That said, great pics of a great looking vessel.

Another one active at the time of taking the picture. HMS Gloucester on navigational exercises off Guernsey in 2006. Now decommissioned and sent to Turkey for breaking up.

I'd prefer to see the ships underway, as opposed to "Shooting Ducks" tied up to piers.

Hope this qualifies as they are boats, not ships!

Absolutely Annie. Thanks for posting the pic of the sub underway. I was stationed on the USS Permit (SSN 594) from '75-'77.

Thanks, Jon. Are you familiar with AUTEC? If so, this is the BUTEC (British version) range which is very close to where I live. We often have subs up here!

EDIT: Here's another one of a Danish sub.
