Well after months of owning both 5DS R and a7R II I have finally taken the time to test each camera using the same lenses (all of my lenses) at all the main apertures (up to f/11). The test shot was a landscape out at nearby West Point Lake and I was able to fix the same views as well as focus on the exact same twig.

I'm just now going through the images - I've looked at 11-24mm and 16-35mm f/4 IS so far - and the results are really surprising me. The extreme corners of the a7R II shots are consistently sharper. Only a hair sharper, but sharper nonetheless. Wow. Gives me renewed confidence to go ahead and part with the 5DS R.

Going back to look at more lens tests, but just had to pop in and share my findings.

Sheesh David, that's a tough decision... That 5DSR is such a nice camera also. It must be hard to part with that. Good luck

Daniel awesome catches all but really like the totally unique squirrel. My squirrels are lame.

Thanks. Most of our squirrels are the garden variety type. I've seen several of these guys in Big Cypress National Park though. There is one that I saw that walked right up to my car. The tourists feed them...

Wish I could...I think it's going to be awesome. Did you pre-order one?

xpfloyd wrote in post #17815538 (external link)
Loxia 21 will be superb. Im denying its existence

Miranda1 wrote in post #17815561 (external link)
Yeah, it's a very interesting lens and by all accounts a great performer. I have the 21 Distagon ZE, it's a fantastic lens so other than the size difference it would be really difficult to justify replacing it with the Loxia.

Joe

No I didn't preorder but if I was in US I definitely would. I am eyeing to get it from Australia as we getting raped here in New Zealand (there is like $600NZD difference) but not sure when this will be available there..

I thought of adapting the ZE version but I want to avoid adapting lenses..

I shot a few business portraits for a friend's family chiropractor practice. They wanted something less "corporate" and plain, and something more fashion or edgy.

- Second Photo: PCB alienbees ring flash with moon unit

Well its been an eventful last few hours. Sold my cv40, close focus adaptor and fuji x100t and re-purchased a sigma 85.

New years resolution - try and go 6 months without making a change to my lineup!

the A7R was the first thing I had bought in 2 years...now I am trying to decide on big lineup changes...try to get it settled down and simplified.

new years resolution.... try not to buy more than 10 lenses in a year :p

on a gear related note, batis 25 is on my radar and I cant seem to shake it. Size may be too big, will play with it before buying it.

I was reading over Lloyd Chambers' review on the Batis 25mm over the weekend and I'm pretty blown away by it. He seems to give it the highest praise possible, especially as a landscape lens. Apparently it has a very flat field of focus, little distortion, excellent flare resistance, etc. I want one too! :)
