Howdy folks.

Gene. I'm really jealous of your Batis 25. I can't find one anywhere. I guess I'll have to keep on waiting on that.
It's probably my next big lens purchase now that I have the 35mm prime covered.
Still planning on taking some Canon EF stuff to my Arizona trip (namely the 16-35/4 and the 70-200/4) because I don't have any kind of Sony equivalent at the moment.
Other than that, the rest of the Canon gear is staying home.

Still haven't been out shooting. It's been about a month. I need to get some shooting in this week before my trip, dammit!

A quick scroll down the latest page at my Flickr account shows my biggest themes lately...booze, steaks, cameras and macro shots with a portrait or two thrown in occasionally for good measure. Obviously I need to get out more too!

You should have plenty of photographic opportunities in Arizona. Btw, did you mention whereabouts you were headed? Route 40 or Route 10?

I just updated the a7RII and the Metabones (again). So I put the 400mm DO on the 1.4 X TC III and tried it out with the updates. Poor to no focus indoors in low light, but very nicely quick focusing outdoors in good light. I didn't have much for subject matter so I shot a stalk of Norfolk pine some distance away to see how it focused. This is a crop of a crop.

Which Metabones firmware are we up to? I haven't kept up with EOS lenses on the Sony.
That's a great pic by the way, could it get any sharper?
I don't see any contrast issues either, that is like global warming myth eh?

47, I think, adds improved connectivity with both 1.4 and 2X TCs.

I accidentally shot in Tungsten white balance and when I adjusted in post the sky background got more intensive. I did apply sharpening--so, no, I don't think it can get more sharp, But here's the original with only color correction and a slice from the raw file with no editing or correction:

That's creative editing in #1. Just for giggles here is a shot from the nutcracker using the A7RII, the Metabones before either were updated and the Sigma 120-300mm Sport. These images have been processed through DxO 10 from raw to tiff, then croped in tiff and both converted to jpg and resizing the full frame. The tiff files averaged 243 MB! I could have lightened the shadow on the character at the left, but left it for now.

Another set of DxO conversions reduced and converted to jpg.

I need a flash braniac's assistant please-

Some awesome news (for me, maybe others), or could be old old news.
For those who like to travel small and light the Nissin i40 is king.
But I learned in Costa Rica from Chris Jimenez the extreme value of
off-camera flash. Seeing the difference from on camera to a flash 10 feet
away blew me away.
The news is the little dinky Sony HVL-20 will remotely fire the i40 off camera.
The size of both of these flashes is still 1/2 the size of a 'normal' flash.

Now my puzzle is how much exposure is coming out of the HVL-20 on the camera?
So I covered the HVL-20 up with my hand-the i40 still fired with Poof holding it
8 feet away. Then I turned the Rii + HVL-20 in the oposite direction my body
blocking line of site with the i40 and the i40 still fired.
Ok so it's wireless! Even better....

Now these observations are without reading any manual, only putting the
Nissin in Sf mode and setting Fill Flash in the Rii's menus.

I covered up the HVL-20 so all exp would come from the remote i40 for the
results I'd be after in the real world BUT does anybody know how to do
this without covering up the HVL-20 ??

Next test is to try the Better Beamer with the i40.

I'll be joining this thread. My sister stopped in for a few days on her way to California. We did the gift exchange just before she left, and she insisted I open mine so she would know if it was a good choice.

I'm thinking it was a good choice. When I visited her last year, I was mainly using my a6000, and told her it was an awesome little camera. She stepped it up a few notches for me. I love my sister.

Let the learning begin!
