#6 and #8 for me Doc. Strobe shots look better but it is soooo much easier to not use them in my opinion. I miss sometimes not setting up my strobes but I don't miss bringing all that stuff with me.

You got that right!

In this case, I was at a gym I'd never shot at before and the baseline was about 6' from the wall and there were cheerleaders all along the baseline so strobing wouldn't have been practical anyway.

That 1Dx at 6400 iso makes awesome clean shots! Great captures on the action, I wish that my 5d3 was that clean at those ISO's... it's good, but not that good. Plz note, I'm in no way taking away from what you've got there, those shots look great because you knew what to capture and when. Equipment makes it just that much nicer though. :)

1Dx | 7D2 | EF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS | EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II | EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II | And a few more red lines.

Before you diss your 5d3, please remember that just because these were shot at ISO 6400, that doesn't mean that the light quality at all gyms are the same. These were shot under florescent lighting with the new generation bulbs. This light is much better than the same quantity of light coming from old bulb technology that made everyone look jaundiced because the light had too much yellow and not enough red. Plus those old bulbs were much more susceptible to light cycling and were often 'buzzy'. Color corrected lighting will give better results than what I had here. You have to think light quality not just quantity.

Yes, the 1D X does a good job. Thank you for the kind words.

True enough. I live in a small town and the gyms we play in are pretty rough when it comes to the light. I often have to fix a lot in post, but I make do. Oh and don't worry, I love my 5d3, it's the best tool of it's type that I've ever owned. It's my work horse for sure!

Take are!
