Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

The second one I absolutely love, especially the reflection in the floor.

The first one, is perhaps a little low key, she just seems to be floating in space. A little more light on the floor would work wonders I think.

Shooting ballet has been something I've wanted to do for ages, my fiancée even owns a dance studio so you'd think I'd have more opportunities!

Ballet dancers are very particular. There is one correct way to move, correct technique is what the art form is built on. To capture a dancer moving in between positions, showing imperfect technique, is not good. They always want to see the photos before they are shared on social media.
I took a ballet class for a semester, so that I could learn a bit of the basics, and some of the terminology. That has helped, if I want to show the dancer in sous-sous, or to stand in b-plus, it helps to know the terms. The worst thing to capture is a sickled foot. Second worse are but shots, caught as the dancer is turning, or moving through plie. When I have to photograph a large group of people, it gets hard because if the dancer in the front is doing something beautiful, often the dancers behind her are awkward.

Once in a while, the dancers are all together, and I've got the right timing. I operate on a law of averages with ballet photography. If I take 400 shots, I'm likely to have at least 10 that are pretty good.

From a performance done in a local mall by a school celebrating its 20th anniversary. As usual, lighting was not ideal for my camera's poor high-ISO performance capability but i tried my best.
