Why hasn't this thread be merged with the Lens Sample thread yet?

It's been overcast and raining pretty much since I got this lens... how ironic. Trying to get out and shoot some decent photos, but it is so dull outside :-( I definitely am ready for a 1.4x converter!

Right from the start I wondered why this wasn't in the "review" section. Yes, there is actually a separate section of the forum for reviews. Since "review" is actually in the title, I thought that it would be most accurately placed it the review section. But it has regressed from what was supposed to be a review into what has become an image sharing thread. I don't really understand why this has been tolerated. If it is a review, then it belongs with the reviews. If it is a lens sample image sharing thread, then it belongs there.

It bothers me a bit that this thread has taken a lot of attention away from the "proper" place for such posts, which would be in the lens sample section.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I'm guessing the OP has a pretty good idea of where what type of threads belong.

I have a similar opinion to yours about the multitude of camera body/type specific threads in the EOS bodies sub-section. IMO those belong in the camera samples section

I followed both this thread and the "approved" 100-400II thread and I read them both.

Problem solved.

Gotta agree with you Frank it is a great lens; and yes, pretty close to the 300 2.8 IS II. The two of them make a great Airshow combo.

I'm actually thinking of selling or trading my 300 f2.8 and buying the 400 DO II.
With the 1.4xIII on the DO, I'd have 100-400mm and 560mm for air shows.

Much to think about -?

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Sorry, I never intended for this thread to become a sharing thread.

I posted this review in 2014, before I knew the ins and outs of the Review section.

If I had the tools available to me, I would have long ago moved sharing posts from the review into the "official" sharing thread. If I could I would have converted the initial post to a review in the review section.

However, over a year has passed, and when a thread takes on a life of its own, like this one, and like the sharing of images in the '7D2 AF Thread" where the vast majority of posts in both cases are nether review nor discussion of AF issues, it becomes far more disruptive to the forum participants, IMHO, to attempt to force the membership to bend to a strict interpretation of where images should be posted.

Taking firm action now, the old saying about closing the barn door after the horse has bolted comes to mind.

I take the fact that it's been a year before we've had a single complaint about the direction this thread took to mean that it has not bothered anyone until this week.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Peace on Earth and Good will to all.
And Happy New Year!!!
