Well, marijuana is illegal here in switzerland. Would love to live in LA as many of the US users here do, because of that :p

However, i think i shouldve turned IBIS off as i think it may have caused a very slight blur to the image...

When I was there I would've sworn it was legal with the amount of people I saw smoking it! The police didn't seem to care either... personally I don't care for it, but I also don't see what's so criminal about it.

It is far far less destructive than other drugs that are legal like alcohol, vanilla oreos, etc. :p

Merry Christmas everyone. Been laying low lately, but headed out on a road trip to Arizona tomorrow.
As usual, gear decisions are killing me. The good news is I'm driving, so I can take as much gear as I want.
I'm still trying to keep it reasonable.
So here's my question: I plan on doing some minor Astro out there in the desert. What lens should I focus on? I have a couple of fast wide primes FD 24/2.8 and CV 35/1.7. I have faster, but longer (85/1.4 Rokinon).
And a bunch of slower zooms.
What would you try? I kinda wish I had the Rokinon 24/1.4, but I don't.
Thoughts?

And what's the basic rule of Astro? I'm new to it. High ISO (3200?) wide open?

Agreed. I used to be very against it just because I knew people who did use it as the "gateway" drug and went down a very destructive and dark path... but as I've grown up I realized they'd have gone down that path with or without marijuana, I know plenty of people who smoke it and steer clear of all other drugs (including alcohol). It'd be pretty damn hypocritical of me to pass judgement on people for smoking pot as I sit here with a beer next to my keyboard  As I said, it just doesn't interest me though...

As far as I'm concerned America is supposed to be the land of the free... so the govt should let us be just that.

For wide field right? The widest and fastest. You have semi wide and fast and you can always stitch. I don't think you have the core this time of year even out west. Wide open? You would think yes but if using A7Rii or A7S you can stop down a stop and coma will ease, roundness of stars is helped, and hard to believe DOF helped too. The great Milky Way photographer here on POTN ....He shoots in NZ stops down his Rokinion 14mm and def. His 24mm.
Just another 0.02

Thanks Medicine Man.

Wide or narrow field. Don't care. My first time doing this. Just hoping to catch some neat landscapes with stars or similar. I tend to think wide by default, but if the fast 1.4 is more important, I can go with the 85mm.
I guess I'll try all of the above and see what sticks.

(In other words, I'm packing everything but the kitchen sink!)

Charlie,
Curved Dell Monitor? Tell me more. I've been a long time Dell monitor user (27" currently, since the day those came out), but admit I have not kept up with the latest...Are we talking 4K? What video card do you need to drive that?

And forgive me guys for catching up on older posts and going backwards...
Finally ready to take on some photography again after a month off. Tomorrow, we're off to Arizona for a week. I plan to explore the desert best I can!

Have a safe trip Dean. Sounds like a fun time.

More lights from the riverwalk

I thought about cropping in further to avoid the lights on the left. Do they distract your eyes?
