Transferring G16 pix to iMac?

I'm stumped! I've spent all afternoon trying to transfer pix from my NEW G16 to my iMac's "Photos" App. No luck at all. When
I put the card into the computer card reader the system always automatically takes me to take me to ImageBrowser. The IB preference screen has a space to change the destination but I can't find " office-pictures-library" (the PHOTOS app). I'm not hard-over about using the native Apple app so any alternative suggestions are welcome. My goal is to typically do some minor PP and either print or share (email, text, etc.) my photos. Other than the native Apple PHOTOS app I have been using PPE-9. BTW, the G16 wifi link with my iPhone has worked very well...but, I'd not like to use it to download a days-worth of shooting. PMs welcome...Thanks in advance. BJ, Sacramento

Does the Apple OS have something similar to a Windows File Manager? If so, can you close the Image Browser app and transfer your files manually to another preferred location instead?

Well, I do have a PC...but I'd rather use the Mac. My best guess is that in the process of FORMATING the SD card it is
imprinted with the ImageBrowser pathway. Bummer! BJ

Are you formatting the SD card in the Mac and not in-camera? Canon and most camera manufacturers recommend to always perform in-camera formatting of the SD card. Maybe the Apple OS, by file type association, opens the Image Browser app. Can't you reassign the Apple OS default app like with MS Windows?

Nope! Formating in the camera. I'm sure I'll find a workaround, but this is really perplexing. Being "forced" to work through ImageBrowser is certainly a case of teaching an old dog new tricks. bj

I think this is the way to go, create a folder on your desktop called G16 originals, then whichever processing software you use (e.g. Lightroom or Photoshop) it can target the location and load up copies simultaneously.

Canon 5D mk3, 50mm 1.4, 17-40L, 70-200L, 100-400L, Canon 100L macro, Canon 2 x G1X, Speedliite 430 EX all supported by Gitzo and Benro.

Clever workaround. I'll give it a try. I'm still not convinced that my problem doesn't stem from "operator error" on my part...though I've checked and double-checked my settings. Still waiting for a magic bullet from a POTN member...bj

For my new to me G16 I plug the camera into the computer using an existing usb to mini usb cable then into av out on the camera. I use aperture which opens automatically. It also opens photos app which I have not switched to yet. Remember to switch camera to playback mode when turned on. I thought they should have included one with the camera but they sell them for about $6 I keep it plugged into the computer all the time. Chris

Connor 8100...I think that just might have been the "main bullet" I've been waiting for...playback mode. I had tried the USB cord earlier, but not with the G16 in PB mode. All seems to be on track now. Well, except for the PHOTOS app only displaying the day-of-the-week instead of the actual date when the pictures were taken. Not nearly as big a deal as before when everything downloaded was defaulted to ImageBrowser...bj
