Had a look at a map and discovered Applecross is near where we stayed for a couple of days last May, in Plockton. We never got up your way, and obviously that was a mistake!

I have never noticed this before, here in southern Ontario, Canada. if it ever gets cold enough again, I'll have a look for some examples!

We stayed in Plockton for a day or two in May 2001 on a tour with Ed Miller. It was fun.

I am now part of the club. I just purchased a 5D3 with grip. Such a huge step up from the 5D2. And boy, are SD cards that much cheaper than CF memory cards.

I've set up the focus system already. Any other tricks I should know about? I've been trying to read up on the body to see what people are doing with it.

Cheers.

SD cards are cheaper, but I find the 5D3 works much faster with similarly "specced" CF cards than with them.

I keep SD for overflow, and don't use them unless I have to (they are installed, but they only come into use when the CF card fills up). Unfortunately, this prevents me from doing a simultaneous store of each exposure, but speeds up the camera.

Perhaps more experienced or knowledgeable users can refute my practice (I hope they can ...).

CF cards are definitely much faster than SD. The CF BUS in the 5D3 allows for a much faster transfer rate than the SD BUS. It is a well documented quirk of the body. You may still find using SD adequate. I guess it depends on how you shoot.

As for the body have you done any reading on the AF system? This is an article I used when I was first setting mine up. If is for BIF which I rarely shoot but it helped me understand a lot about the AF system.
