Looks like the old Hibiscus Beetle is back and it seems like they're throwing a party. Might not have to spray this time as the guy in the bush next door might see 'em off

Amazing how this thread keeps pumping out some really nice pictures. So convincing to me that I went and ordered myself a 7D MkII even though my 5D MkIII was already producing plenty of good shots with this lens. 7D2 gets here this week from B&H.

I've taken so much to this combo that I've actually sold my 5d3 to fund expedition gear in the hope that a bit of bush bashing the rainforest will avail me of more photo opportunities for this wonderful combo.

Not only has this combo got me into birding when I had never taken a photo of a bird in over 40yrs of photography, it's now got me back into "The Wild" where I spent so much time when I was younger and which I had neglected this last 10 yrs or so.

The lightweight tent arrived today along with some other gear. Another couple of weeks getting fit and I'm off to spend 4 days in Lamington National Park. Apart from the birds, I want to photograph some of these guys

Restricted to streams bordered by rainforest and sometimes wet eucalypt forest at more than 300 m altitude. Inhabits mountains in a crescent from Mount Tamborine to Lamington Plateau, west along Macpherson Range and north via Cunningham's Gap into the Mistake Mountains, Queensland.

Often found walking on rainforest tracks after rain. If encountered can be very aggressive waving its claws back over its head and hissing audibly. Can deliver a painful nip if handled.

Some of my first attempts with this lense. Never shot with anything over 100mm before. Any comments or hints at pp would be helpful.

If ever there again, I'd open up the aperture to f8 to get more in focus, especially with the SS you are getting. Hell, I'd even shoot at f16.

Sounds similar to the invasive chrome green Japanese Beetles we have here that eat everything in sight; very pretty bug, but no natural predators here. My grandma tries to keep them out of her garden by going around and knocking them into a pail of soapy water haha

I was some where around 8 feet I think maybe a bit less

I for one (I'm sure others agree too) can't wait to see what shots you come back with from your "bush bashing the rain forest" will bring, you always have very colorful and very interesting shots.

Thanks Randy. Weight, with regards to trekking, (they call it "bushbashing" here), and the humidity, is the problem in the rainforest, but I've decided that this combo is so good that it'll be all that this old fart can carry and still be assured of a hot meal at the end of the day. Hope that my endeavours will live up to the excellent images portrayed in this thread
