CF cards are definitely much faster than SD. The CF BUS in the 5D3 allows for a much faster transfer rate than the SD BUS. It is a well documented quirk of the body.
Agree! CF card much faster and the buffer never seems to be reached on mine.

I'm sure I read it had something to do with the processor/electronics within the 5D3 not natively supporting dual card interfaces and thus it had to be "botched" a bit, whereas this was rectified on the 7D2. I worry that I just keep repeating the same old scenes over and over even though the weather, clouds etc. are always different. The sunset today was really orange but not as dramatic as a few nights ago.

However, the ptarmigan were going about their business as usual except that they did not fly away. I think they were grounded! Beautiful, Annie. I love the way the telephoto compresses the scene. And boy, are SD cards that much cheaper than CF memory cards. I've set up the focus system already. Any other tricks I should know about? I've been trying to read up on the body to see what people are doing with it. Cheers.

LOL at "fully stacked it", not laughing at what happened or the damage, just laughing at your Aussie description of it.
