Nikon is Feeding Canon its lunch....and them some

With the D5 release you have to really wonder WTH is going on with canon. The D5 SMOKES the 1Dx Everyplace.

The D500 is out and the D750 is a great camera.

They better have an answer because if they dont, there is going to be a mass exit to the darker side

really disappointed in Canon right now. And Ive been with them since 1974. The gap has never been this bad

Like any of us with a considerable number of Canon and for Canon glass is going to trample a vast number of unwary pedestrians in our stampede towards the store to buy a Nikon camera that simply does a few more tricks. Yes, there might be a few gearheads that will sell everything on eBay just to keep up with the Joneses, but the rest of us continue enjoying our Canon cameras. Heh, I'm still doing professional work with a 5D2.

I might switch to Nikon in a few years, if the D810 becomes a $1k camera in a few years used.

Then again, I'm probably better off with a basic sony with the same sensor for a lot less and continue on with my current glass. Much more simple.



I'm still shooting a 5D classic, 1D classic, EOS-M, 7D, etc...

Big deal, product cycles. Nice bodies though... no denying that.

Personally the release of new cameras does nothing to my level of satisfaction with my present gear. I have a couple of Canon bodies and some nice glass. I love using them and I am as pleased with the results as I've always been. Anyone who has been using Canon since the 1970s is well aware of the continual oneupmanship between Canon and Nikon. Have no fear. There will be fancy new bodies that can do all kinds of new tricks. The shareholders wouldn't have it any other way. If history proves anything it is that when Canon does announce new cameras they are usually well worth the wait. If there is a mass move to Nikon I hope to benefit from the flood of excellent Canon glass that will hit the secondary market.

So a guy who shoots with 5DIII's and a 7DII is "disappointed" in Canon because their four year old flagship camera from 2012 isn't as good on paper as a just announced Nikon flagship camera from 2016?

ISO 3,280,000 for when you need a shutter speed of 1/38,000.

Definitely some nice specs for the pro shooters... 12fps, 153 AF points, already a still or two better iso in the past so even more this time around, touch screen, better metering... Definitely some things to make you go hmmmmm. If i hadn't just gotten deeper with canon by buying mkii lenses, I would be more interested at checking this out in more detail. It should eventually impact the 1dx prices though, and that might be my next move.

Except the touch screens only let you swipe, zoom and select focus areas. There is no menu control with them, which is strange. Hopefully that is just a firmware upgrade.

Irony:

• Nikon fanboys give their left nut 8-10 years ago to have Canon freedom from noise at high ISO
  
• Canon fanboys give their right nut 8-10 years later to have Nikon sensor benefits.
  

To be honest my bigger dissatisfaction in Canon is the feeling they've been going nuts releasing expensive lenses, Not lenses for the masses.

Still no normal fast prime for EF-S for instance, Everyone else has one of those. An EF-S 30mm f/1.8 would be lovely..

Would i switch? Eh... Maybe? I like the 200-500 VR, But I can also just get the sigma 150-600..

Canon just remade the 50mm as an stm metal mount lens that is quite good, better than the old 50 1.8 lenses. I suspect they will continue this trend for some other primes.

That 50mm STM was a retread of the older versions. IMO there was a much greater need for an EF-S prime like the one suggested by KenjiS. Odd that it is being neglected year after year.

If we look in history, the 135 format has had cameras with 'normal' FL defined at 45mm, 50mm, 52mm, 55mm and 58mm...all have been delivered with FF bodies as 'normal'. The industry took a while to apparently standardize at 50mm, but the Canon 35mm f/1.4 can certainly fit within the classification of 'normal' for APS-C. After all, 35*1.6 = 56mm. Admittedly something of 31.25mm better equals the FOV of the typical 50mm FL for FF, but this is getting picky.
