Pulled the trigger on a used rx1rII. Will see how this works for me. If it works out, I'll sell the FE 35 1.4 and perhaps the Batis 25.

If anyone is interested, I just put the FE 55 1.8 up for sale on FM. Will put a listing up here tonight when I get a chance to take photos.

contax adapter could do it as well. If the M adapter could do auto macro, it would be really nice. Keep us updated when you buy one :p

Haha, not so sure if i will get it that soon. 2 questions: price, and how accurate it actually is. All my M glass is either superwide (CV15) or fast (CV40 and summilux 50) so this means shallow DOF.
Have to wait on first reviews or more videos to decide..

I have the 70-400 II and EA-LA3. While no match for a Canon 7DII and any Canon lens at focusing speed, it is sharp when it needs to be. I do not have the 70-300mm L but I do have the 70-300mm DO. Its focusing method is older and the IS is first generation, but if it works on the Sony a7RII and Metabones IV with latest upgrades, I'll go do some shots to see if it is worthwhile using it.

I am more interested in image quality. I dont mind using MF but if it can AF at reasonable speed im not unhappy at all. I just dont shoot sport or BIF so AF performance is not crucial. I just ask myself if the 70-400GII can hold a candle IQ wise compared to the canon 70-300L

I also have an Fstop backpack. It's way too huge for what I am looking for here. The ultralight Loka is still a 30L pack, and I am looking for something in the 15-20L range. I think F Stop is geared for serious landscapers that hit the backcountry for longer term outings, where I am just looking for a day-pack thing.

David, when I was looking for a bag I purchased the lowepro sport 20 L AW and also this bag http://www.amazon.co.uk …&keywords=camera+rucksack (external link) to compare them. The copy version was a third of the price and functionally identical. Quality was good too. I went with the cheaper one on the link and have been using it since as my landscape bag. Tripod can strap to one side and the other side has a pocket that can also take a water bladder. I'm not sure if its available on amazon.com but dont be put off by the price, its a great bag and basically the same as the lowepro

Edit - just had a thought that our previous conversation applies to this too

_______________

Different topic, but one we've discussed before here in the lounge. I've been going through my digital library of photos cleaning up all the junk, and converting my mulit-layer PSDs to single-layer TIFs. It is a huge project; going to take weeks. On the positive side, the project is fun because I am reliving all my photo outings. On the negative side, I take way too many junk and meaninglessly iterative photos.

Hopefully it's going to teach me to be more disciplined going forward. Being more disciplined in my shooting in the field, and more disciplined to keep my library neat with each and every outing/project.

A friend has one and lobes it. I tired it on and it's very comfortable.

Thanks Travis. That is encouraging. The whole rotation belt-pack thing could either be great or horrible. If you want the thing to just work like a regular backpack (accessing your camera/lens with the pack off), then it's probably a bad solution. But, if being able to comfortably access the gear while the pack stays on works well, then it would be a home-run. It's just hard to know what you're going to like before you buy. I may just order one and if I find I hate it, then back it goes.

I think it does. I have the v1 since it has the same mtf scores, so I saved some money.

I did a test to compare it to the 70-200ii here, and I think it holds up well. Downside is that it's massive, and I really dont like lugging it around.

if you drill down to the dxo (external link) measurements, the 70-300L is better wide open at most if not all focal lengths, however, at F8, the sony is better at most if not all comparable focal lengths.

I got the lens for landscape usage, however due to the size, I do shy away from it. I have no intention of selling it.

Thanks very much for your insight. Since you mentioned it, whats different in V2 when MTF is the same?

I just didn't agree with your statement implying arca swiss and rrs were the only "real quality" manufacturers for ballheads. Its simply not true IMO. No offence intended

I guess it all depends on how high your demands are. I believe mine supports a load of up to 60 kg. Even though that's overkill, I feel very confident with any device I attach to it. It's also built like a tank. And with "real quality ballheads" I meant the "Otus" amongst ballheads. My initial plan back then was to go for the Sirui K-30x, but I came to the conclusion that it simply wasn't in the same league as the Arca Swiss. And that's no shame since the K-30x is a lot cheaper. No offence taken by the way. :-)

AF speed, supposedly it's super quick when doing a full rack, and has better nano coatings. I'm fine with the focus speeds, I havent encountered any problems so far.

70-400 does OK.
I've always had satisfaction with the 70-300 DO so was never tempted to try the L version.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Hah I need a second body and got to wondering if the RX1 would fit the bill. Then this used RX1RII showed up and there rest is history. The FE 35 and Batis 25 are the two redundanti-ish lenses....so they're the ones to get 'revamped'
