Went out for my first, real attempt at finding these guys out in the field today; and they were solidly present. Struggled with light and position most of the day, but a few came out well and I know where they like to hang out now!

1. "Not...amused"

7. Dogfight w/ a Northern Harrier...wish this one were a little close and focus was better, but...heck of a frame for the day anyway.

Overall, it was a fun day out in the sun and I met a ton of friendly faces out in the weeds and the swamp! Thanks for looking in.

It really was a blast; even though they were mostly beyond reach, watching both the Owls and the Harriers mixing it up over the marsh was fantastic...they're such aerobatic birds

Thank you, folks!

@budcam: Yeah, that one was a total surprise since the rest of the series was totally OOF. Happy that one turned out as it did.

Very nice, Eric, I love those! You went all out on your first trip to shoot these owls, but did it like a seasoned owl shooter! heheh
I really like the first one, but the one of him yelling, "Hey!" is really a favorite too, I like birds on posts, but not on other man-made things, I'm weird that way. :)
The 'owl pellet' is good if you like that kind of thing, but I have to admit, I have not seen that before.

The Harrier shot is cool too, too bad about it being so far, but I am sure you will be back to remedy that. :)

Thanks! That one was one of those that you pull off the card and go "whoa!"....just couldn't bring myself to call that a failure of a shot :)

You know I'll be back! It turns out that that post and a tangle of branches seem to be favorite perches, so I'll go set up and spend some quality waiting time next time. I found, at least, 2 pellets around that fence piece, so they're fairly comfortable there. As for "Hey!", that was my first hearing them and they sound very strange...sort of a mid-range, gravelly sound vs the higher pitch (like Red-tails).

You guys out there are killing me! Love all your shots, Eric. I know how super rewarding it is to go out looking for something specific and actually find it, and then get some good shots of it.
