Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 EX OS

Great timing Honey Monster!
I looked out and saw the moon Saturday night and thought, "Why not?" So this is the moon at 1680mm. (two 2x tc's plus one 1.4x tc)

F18, ISO400, 1/50th sec on a standard tripod and focused using contrast detect in live view. No crop

That moon is remarkably sharp for 3 TCs and F18. I would have thought that 1/50 was a bit slow for that focal length on a crop camera with the speed the moon moves at, but obviously not.

Lol Later I tried framing Jupiter. You should have seen it move! I've managed moon shots down to 1/30th sec. I focused via contrast detect and then switched the lens to manual to lock focus in place. I watched the moon at 10x magnification via live view and took the photo via shutter release when the air currents came relatively clear. Its wild to watch how much distortion air currents can cause.

Today it arrived. My little baby. Last year I sold this beauty but yesterday I couldn't hold back. One big brand got the old 120-300/2.8 without the os in stock. But for 1000 USD!!.
I checked the same brand but in another store that they have here in Sweden and I found my beauty in stock. The condition was grade B (A is mint condition). The price was 950 USD!!.
I ordered it immediately when this lens is rare in the secondary market in this country and for this price. Unfortunately had the hood burst. Our mail service is not so cautious. The shop had forgotten to send the bag too but the store order a new hood for me and the case is now sent to me. Good service!

The lens was a good copy. Sharp at 2.8 and the focus rings is soft. This lens is an investment. I have always sought a 300 / 2.8 lens for use in the positions require similar lenses. Now I have my Tamron 150-600 to daily shooting in the woods. When I sit in the hide and photograph eagles, black grouse, bear and other beautiful animals so I finally have my own 300 / 2.8 lens to bring out.

My baby is home again.

Yes I have a lens / camera camouflage coat fro Wildlife Watching Supplies. I have a looser fitting cover than those designed to fit the lens exactly. I also have a hide for use in the garden and the wild. I just need to be home long enough to use them.

I gave found the customer service to be excellent. The owner is a wildlife photographer himself and initially developed the products for his own use. He couldn't be more helpful and has a real passion for his products and photography. As part of my order he created a custome size lens cap after I had messed up the dimensions, without any additional cost to myself. This is one of those companies that it is a delight to deal with. If you have any questions you can email or phone to make sure you are buying the right product. You might have to leave a message if he is on a shoot himself.

I got it for my 120-300 today but need to see which part should be where. I can't get the part closest to the camera to fit with the tripod collar.
Do u have a image so I can see how you got it to work 100%?

I don't know if my OS work as it should do. I recognized the OS work good and really show that it works but with my copy now I can't decide if it's working or not. I tried to look at the live view screen to see if it moves when the OS stops but it's a very very little movement and sometimes when I tried it indoor I got better shots with it off. I don't hear any sounds either from the OS, I remember my previous 120-300 os make a little sound when the OS starts but this I can't hear it. The focus motor I hear and something else but I don't feel that the OS works 100%.

Do anyone got any suggestions for me how to see if it works other than just take a picture?

Did you zoom in 10x zoom with live view?

Yes. But now when I tried it in an other environment it does work good. Much better with OS at 1/40sec I will try some weeks and see how it works. Is it a good thing to add a 1.4x tc. I can get a soligor pro dg cheaper then sigma. I've owned a sigma tc before and it performs very well

The sigma TC's work well. The 1.4tc is almost unnoticeable to me in IQ and AF performance. The 2.0tc also only slightly affects IQ and while its AF performance hit is noticeable it is still very useable. I have no problem using the 2.0 at all.

I'm using EX DG versions as the new TCs don't work with the old non-Sport OS lens
