Father's Day Forever

6D & Tamron 15-30 at 15mm

This was taken last summer just before Father's Day in Rocky Mountain National Park. My daughter accompanied me to the top of the mountain, over which a cloud front had just passed and was approaching Denver in the distance. We were alone on top of the world for most of the night. It's not technically perfect, but may be my favorite astro shot ever for the memories.

Sadly here in the land of cloud/fog/snow/ice it will be May before the core presents.
So in the meantime must enjoy your work Mickey :)

Cheers :) you should join us down here in NZ for photography workshop!

I love this. I hope to share some times like this with my daughters when they get older.

Winter is the BEST time!!! Milky Way is in full force then, clear skies are clearer and the mountains look awesome :)

Yeah, wish I got more time in this place. I'm in Dallas and have to drive for hours for a decent dark sky. There are darker ones in west Texas, but they get hazy... Nothing like clean air and dark skies at 10,000+ feet!

I do recommend it. My daughter is 12 and there is an ever-decreasing body of things for us to talk about, but she's taken up the hobby and now goes out with me when she can.

I'm in Irving and I drive up to Oklahoma for dark there. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is a really good place, it's not as dark as Big Bend, but it's close and has some pretty good terrain as a backdrop to use.

I've thought about that actually. I've been out to Caprock Canyons and Copper Breaks a few times as well, really nice skies in the canyon especially - but it's a good 5 hours.

Speaking of Big Bend, here's one from the Dugout Wells oasis last year after labor day.
