Just bought a Canon 70d thinking of buying the Tamron 150-600mm for birding. Any issues with AF and would it be a good buy at £749+lens bag.

Not to hijack your post, but I have been wondering the same thing. I have been considering a 2X extender for my 70-200, seems to be a cheep (especially if you pick up a used one) way to get out to 400. What are peoples thoughts on this option?

It's not a great option. Hurts image quality and slows AF.

I'd be looking for a used Sigma 150-600 or Canon 100-400 V1

Not bad options to consider, then again, the 400 5.6 with 1.4 extender is a light weight package.

g mornin finally able to invest in more equipt, picked up a 7d mk2, also looking for a little more reach than my 70-200 ,
is this a good option for the money not really lookin for using it over 400 mm , Sigma Zoom Normal-Telephoto 50-500mm f/4.0-6.3 EX APO RF HSM Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS
thanks for any input would really like to keep it under 800 bucks if possible

If you can stretch it to $1,000 the Sigma 150-600 mm C is the better lens.

I have the Tamron 150-600 and it's worked great for me. Very handy lens.
