another idea for the digital camera age:

shoot a video for 30 seconds or so or see if many still shots works.

of course you will be doing this on your tripod.

then post-process it by merging all the images.

i'll call this "time-stacking".

For sony users theres the smooth reflections app for the A7 cameras (maybe nex and dslr's too) that does exactly this. It shoots many images during a timespan and combines them in-camera to a fake long exposure. Never tried it but i heard its working pretty good

A couple of years ago, I knew a guy who did this using Imagemagick. Apparently it reads video files so no need to extract frames into separate files. I never tried it, but now that we have 4K it might be worth looking into again. Don't know if the software is still around or updated either. The Sony app is also old tech, kind of like Canon copying something that was done in Magic Lantern years ago.

Let us know how it works!

From Augies Sunset Cafe on Eagle Mountain Lake. Probably the best little bar in Texas(and I've been in a lot of them, Lol).

CC Welcome as I'm looking to learn from your LE pros.

Shot with a B+W 10stop ND, duration was 59 seconds.

After processing, I noticed haloing around the pillons, I'm guessing it's from pulling the contrast so much and shadows.

Focus was on furthest most pillon with live view manual focusing. I think it's slightly off

I like the clouds in the second one better. The foreground objects are in the frame a little random, but they look like good objects to work with.

For the dust spots, try frequency separation, Jimmy McIntyre has a great tutorial on using that method for dust spots that I came across a couple weeks ago that is excellent...and so much easier than the clone tool.
