I am looking to tether my 5DC and/or 50D to a LG Android tablet (instead of a laptop PC - easier/lighter to carry) in order to be able to preview my shots in larger format right away. I've scanned through the forum and have read of either a wired approach, using an OTG cable and some requisite software. This is what I am leaning towards (the other approach of setting up a wireless connection between the camera and the tablet seems, to me, to be too much complication for what I am looking for).

Can anyone point me towards what software I would need to load onto my tablet in order to be able to view my taken photos? Also, is there anything specific in terms of the camera cable or OTG cable I should be aware of? What other factors/issues and I overlooking?

Thanks for your help!

I am in a somewhat similar situation regarding a tethering solution. I am just starting to
work through potential solutions and am somewhat impressed with a wireless solution that uses
DSLR Controller. Cost is a big element of the equation in my situation. I need a solid inexpensive solution to display photos on site.

There is an Android app required for the tablet, and you need to
modify the firmware in a TL-MR3040 wireless router. The reviews I have gone through
seem favorable, but I am still trying to sort out what tablet will pass my common sense test.
I am not a big Android fan.
Here is a link to a review that might provide more info on the steps required.

Hope this helps,

Lots of help in those articles you linked to. I'm not ready to mess with router firmware, and have no issues with a wired tether approach.

Thanks for the pointer!

DSLR Controller with a USB Cable works great, but it will not work with your 5Dc :(

EDIT: Here's the compatibility chart and sadly no go on the 5Dc, but it will work with 50D

Finding a cable that does not require a pile of adapters is a bit of a trick and varies from Camera to Camera.

Amazon usually has "Lindy USB2.0 Micro-B to Mini-B cables for most Canon DLSR.
7D2 requires USB 3 on the camera end,.

If you want to review (only) your images, then use the camera's video out to feed a small monitor. That option will work with the 5DC. DSLR Controller and qDslrDashboard will let you shoot remotely (either USB wired or wireless over WiFi) from an Android (or iOS or Windows or Mac for qDslrDashboard) if your camera supports Live View (which the 5DC doesn't). So to preview your images, the 5Dc isn't an option.

Perhaps the expensive but obvious answer is a Microsoft Surface.

If I went the PC-based route, the cheaper alternative is a smaller/thinner 2-in-1. Not exactly tablet sized, or Surface sized, but cheaper - and then I'm into the whole PC config mess (which is only a mess because I have a personal problem with buying just what I really need to get the job done as opposed to buying what I tell myself I "need" ;-)a).

Guys - thanks for the heads up on the 5Dc. That's a bummer. Maybe I need to buy a 5DMkIII (See? There's that "need" again.)
