Congratulations on your first post! You are in the right place.

Image #1 and #2 are OK.

#3, #5 and #8 have missed the peak action. They are a bit too late.

#4, #6, and #8 need to have faces in the photos.

#7 should be tighter.

Volleyball is tough to shoot and you've done well for your fourth time out. You've frozen the action, the images are in focus and the exposures are good. give some thought to where you want to position yourself as you attempt to capture the various positions on the court. Keep shooting and posting.

Phil

Thanks Phil for your comments,

I have followed you to this forum after reviewing your blog and reading your guide for volleyball photography, it is very symbolic having you as my first one to review/comment on my work.

I fully agree with your inputs, I actually put note to self about working on positioning myself better.
In order to be tighter I am waiting to collect my new Nikon AF-S Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II in couple of days.

I am not happy with the focus and I am working to improve that as well. I am also looking for guides for better NR in post-processing.

This is the place to thank you for your guide, it is awesome!

Thanks,

Avi

That new 70-200mm lens should help. I look forward to seeing the results.

is this a pro league?
Anyways nice photos. I'd just suggest to shoot a lot tighter or at least edit them tighter.

Good first outing. Having attempted to shoot HS volleyball I know how hard it is to capture "the moment".

Lucky! Wish we had pro leagues here in the states. Just PVL which only competes at the national adult competitions. Good lucky this Friday!

Nice work for still being in the "learning stage"!

I agree that you need to time your images a bit sooner - you're close to the moment of impact on several shots - but are capturing just after contact with the ball. You can grab some great images if you are along the net, shooting as the hitter attacks the ball and drives it into the blockers. You will see how high their hands are and how close they get. If you catch it just right you see the ball depressing as the hitter's hand impacts it - makes for a cool shot!
Also, if you are shooting from behind the hitter or blockers you can catch the hands and the angles they are hitting/blocking.
And a final idea - when shooting the jump serves, sets, and even the hitters' approach, try sitting/kneeling. That angle will enhance the height and show the athleticism of the players. Adds a sense of power and "ups".

Thanks for sharing - keep shooting and enjoy it - looks like a great league to shoot!

I agree with the comment about the 70-200mm lens. There is a lot of good stuff going on with your photos, but I think a few of then could be a lot tighter. The 70-200 is my go-to lens for volleyball.
