Nice photo. What's the set-up here?

Thanks :-) It's actually all natural light. I had a window behind me with a large fence in front of it so the light wasn't direct but still strong enough to light up the room and subject. I had the necklace laying on top of some black Plexiglass and had a black reflector about 30 cms behind the subject .

I have a terribly specific set of questions to ask...

Does anyone have this lens and a 70-200 2.8 II? Have you ever compared the two for portraits?

Is there a difference in image quality at, or beyond the MFD of the 70-200? Which is sharper?

In comparison, how is the bokeh and colours?

Thanks.

Yes

I have used both for portraits, but I haven't undertaken a pixel peeping level of comparison of the same subject in the same conditions.

Not noticeably.

Which is sharper?

100 IS by a whisker. Not really noticeable in final images.

In comparison, how is the bokeh and colours?

100 IS bokeh can sometimes be a little more 'nervous' than 70-200 IS II, but it's still good. Colours are basically the same.

I also have both and agree with DodgyExposure on all counts. The real differentiator is weight and size. If you don't need zoom, then the 100L is considerably easier to work with.

Thank you both!

I have the 70-200 and find it very heavy for some work - overkill really.

I am in a position where a macro lens is looking necessary and I was thinking maybe beyond macro shots, I might be able to use this lens for some portrait work.

Really appreciate the replies.
