Good work, if i may though, a handy tip dealing with red birds or flowers or anything is to dial in -1 exposure compensation to avoid destroying your red channel like in the second image, the 7D has a nasty tendency to destroy red otherwise

Ok, anyone thinking about getting this lens, DO IT! Now that I've had a few good light days and some time to figure this lens out, it's AWESOME for the price! Once you give this girl some light she's amazing! The eagle pic is heavily cropped and it's still fairly sharp.

Thanks Kenji. No offense taken. I always have trouble with this species because they are soooooo red that they glow. I have always had issues with the red exposure when photographing Vermilions. I usually shoot with an EC of +2/3, so next time I will try what you suggest to see if it makes a difference.
