Ducks are easy subjects to shoot, right? Except when they don't want to be near you. I had a perfect shot lined up on a northern shoveler until he decided the car was too close to him. Off he went, and you can just see his feet in the upper left of this shot. Ah well, next time, duck!

Yes, and even ISO 16,000 is still Very Usable for Web size 800 pixel postings. This is not a dig of any sort. But, any significant crops (for digital zoom) pretty quickly go down hill even for Web posts.

I'll post up some soon once fimshed processing.

You do know that if you hit the eyeglasses, you can see roughly a 1600px large image? These images I am posting are larger than 800px. Not sure if you knew that or not, that is a feature of AMASS (software running the forum).

I attached a nearly 100% crop from the basketball shot into the post ealier, (post processed) and then here is another from the series...

100% crop with just 2 filters applied as well.

No prob Abacus, This platform is in the water not far from the viewing deck, This used to be an Osprey nest but they abandoned it for almost a decade now, I guest the parks just left there because lots of wildlife used it as perch.

I am tempting to upgrade from the 7d

Actually on the last item I posted, I didn't even have to run my actions, I just run a noiseware step for the lum. noise, and then a careful USM to sharpen it back. Here is a 16000 shot, as I took some of those, but I rarely need to run that high.

This required one of my 7D2 actions with various filters per color channel. The 100% is also included. These are good for much better than 800px web views, these will print somewhat large, I am not sure I could do a 13x19 print from the 12800. They might, I just haven't had to do one yet. ISO 16000 is a bit rough and pretty hard to deal with, but for a crop body, not too shabby. This is why I say that the 7D2 is 1 stop better than the 7D.

One more thing that I thought I noticed from my ol' 7D bodies. Somebody may come in here and refute the suspicion I have based on technical merits, but I think the high ISO gets better the more I shoot with it. After about 10K on the 7D, the high ISO was fairly clean. I think after 8 games or so, I might be seeing that here too? Not sure if there some sort of electronic burn-in that occurs after that much usage, but the levels of noise and detail seems to be a bit better than when I first got it, but I suspect I am just imaging things.

Peter,
That Kenko gets a bad rap, it does do a decent job for sharpness (not so decent for CA control). I am curious if you could please try something with it one time. Some of them are non-recurring to the camera, meaning the 7dii would not know it was there. Can you try it in an f4 lens and see whether any of the non center Af points will actually focus? ( If yours does report, your have to tape the few pins I would assume you are familiar with.) The original 7d really could not due to limitations in the aperture relative to the focus screen. I am very curious whether on the 7dii it is also a physical limitation or a software neutering by Canon to protect the 1 series. The nonreporting TC is what let's us make this determination.

Yeah it does not recognize the Kenko TC but it gives correct FL and Aperture. And it does AF in non center af points and with all af modes like the expansions on both 1.4x and 2.0x tc's the only thing is you can not do MFA with it, It has to be in Zero MFA. I tried many times with kenkos set up recommendations but every time I try my 7D2 died. I have to take off the the battery to and replace it turn on, It scares the heck out of me...:)

Teamspeed, have you shared your workflow with Noiseware in some thread? I would love to see it if it isn't too much trouble.

Thanks!

I have to find some time to do a writeup like I did for the prior bodies. I clean up issues per color channel basically, each channel has its own challenges.

Yolo. :-) but, if isnt it reporting If it shows the right FL and aperture (700mm f8 on 2x)?

You might want to, ask on dpreview or FM whether others have circumvented the mfa w/ Kenko issue.
