here are a couple questions. Feel free to ignore or answer if interested.

1. If you own the A7s original, how badly do you feel the need to upgrade (or not upgrade)?

2. If you own the A7s II, do you feel like it was worth the upgrade or do you, on hindsight, feel as though it wasn't as necessary as you originally thought?

Thanks and have a groovy day.

Are you talking about all A7 first gen models or the A7S?

I had the A7R and A7S. For the R i felt like the upgrade makes a lot of sense as it is significantly different. Not so much on the S. I feel like ibis is really of help on high res sensors, not so much on an A7S where i can bump the ISO how i want. If you dont need better AF or other V2 additions/features id just keep the V1. The A7S is a better overall camera to use than the A7R i feel and thats why i ended up selling the A7R and get the A7RII but keeping the A7S

Assuming Mike meant original A7 body..
1. I have A7, I don't feel need for upgrade. I use MF lenses appx. 95% of time . I am a hobbyist, not professional.
An upgrade to A7II will cost almost $1K which is not worth.

Same way I look at it. 95% manual with just the FE35 2.8 for those occasions when girlfriend/kids may be with me ' snapshotting ' and AF is easier and gives results.

For me the ibis itself woukdv be worth the upgrade. I to use manual lenses 95% of the time and that's the exact reason ibis woukd be great. To have handheld shots with a 135mm or 200mm I think ibis is worth it. I have a ibis cam in my em5 so I know how it helps. I am in the market for a a72 right now and I'll upgrade when I find the right deal.

Fuji TV building, Odaiba, Tokyo.

A7r with Sigma 35/1.4.

Processed in both monochrome and colour - can't decide which one I prefer.

Be hard to choose one over the other....but by the smallest of margins, I keep looking at the mono.

Sorry for any confusion. I was referring to the A7s models (S), the 12mp models.

Well then you heard my opinions. Basically, its very easy:

Get version 2 if:
- you want phase detect AF because you want to use adapted canon lenses with a good adapter or native FE lenses
- you want in body stabilisation for vintage lenses or generally for more keepers or video work
- internal 4K and/or other video related (small) enhancements

Stay where you are if you dont need any of this :) if you ask yourself to upgrade, you probably dont need it. When the A7RII came out i knew i need to get it straight out. I didnt know how i should py for it but i knew i need to replace the A7R with that

I got the A7Rii mainly for 4K video. I love the ability to crop it which I can't really do on the A7s.

As far as I know the A7SII only has 169 contrast detect AF points (so no phase detect AF points). Also, the A7S can only do compressed RAW files while the A7SII can do compressed and uncompressed RAW files.

And for the A7S II there is no reason to avoid uncompressed RAW, as the 12mp sensor isn't going to eat up much space on the computer.

So I'm thinking the mark II is for me.

Now to find a good adapter for my Canon lenses.

I would go for the A7SII because of the uncompressed RAW files and because of IBIS.
