Sigma Austria have teased a new lens to be announced on the 23rd of this month.

The phantom image appears to be a large Telephoto with a tripod collar so possible a 70-200?

yeah, that'd be an excellent combo with the 24-35

Their Art lenses have been quite a bit bigger than most contemporary lenses of similar specs so from that size I wouldn't be surprised if it's a 135/2 or f/1.8 or similar with OS. Putting OS on it would technically be a world first

It would, and I would cry if it was also a full frame lense since I just spent money on buying a 50-150 2.8 OS.... :(

Looked up this article on Sigma Rumors and they have it pegged as an 85-135 2.0 Which physically dimensions wise for full frame might make more sense when looking at the picture and how they have gone about their other ART zoom lenses. http://sigma-rumors.com …sigma-lens-announcements/ (external link)

Of course! All this time I was thinking that a 135 Art couldn't compete with the 135L ... unless, Sigma made it wider.

Yep kinda what I was thinking - why go head to head if you can pull the old bag of primes trick right?

A poster in the comments on Sigma Rumors has detailed some information released by Sigma Hungary. Emkorec - FotóSarokFotóSarok wrote:

"Sigma Hungary has confirmed (on their and our public FB pages) that the bigger lens is really a zoom lens and it is NOT a 24-70, or 70-200 (yet!) and not even a 85-135 or 50-135/50-150. Moreover they told that the smaller lens was really small, smaller than a 85/1.4 would be. It will be a fixed lens for sure (according to them) but we do not know what it is and Sigma Hungary is obviously not allowed to tell more about these lenses. When somebody asked them if it is a 85/1.4, they answered "Almost! ;-)a". My bet is a 50/1.8, 85/1.8, or a DC Macro lens for APS-C or some kind of MILC lens.
As for the bigger zoom lens we have really no idea, my friend told that this year is Olympic year so maybe a 24-120/2.8 is possible...that makes sense indeed :) - would replace the not so popular and struggling 24-105/4 OS..."

seems strange to think it wouldn't compete...i mean all their arts have at least competed with their L counterparts...

it's always exciting to see new lenses...sigma seems to be at least coming out with some innovated stuff...according to canonrumors.com canon is coming out with an 18-135USM...

They've competed with significant price savings compared to the Canon counterparts. But I think that's a sticky problem going up against the relatively affordable 135L.

Even more interesting... if that is a full frame lens... that also means that it would be a 36-180 2.8 lens on Nikon APS-C and a 38-192 2.8 on Canon APS-C cameras!

That is remarkably wide and damn close to 200mm Full Frame equivalent field of view... all with 2.8 constant aperture?!!

If they brought a 135 out at half the price of the Canon 135 it would, but seeing how relatively cheap the Canon 135 is I don't see how Sigma could.

The Canon 135 is quite old though so the updated optics could make a big difference.

That is a factor. But as a practical matter I think it takes more than a good looking MTF chart to drive sales of a third-party lens in a meaningful way. If there's no real innovation beyond improved optics, then I posit that the leading factor has to be price. For example, both the 35 and 50 Arts were introduced at prices below the prevailing USED prices for their Canon counterparts. And you'd better believe that was a sales strategy discussed at Sigma before they ever commenced production.
