I currently have the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II and a Canon 1.4x extender. Wanting a little more reach what are the pros and cons of adding the 2x extender vs. getting the 100-400 IS II?
I think this may all come down to how well does the 2x extender play with the 70-200? I know I will end up about the same point with f-stop with two stop reduction with the extender, but one advantage is that the barrel on the 70-200 does not extend, compared to the 100-400, which the total length gets quite large with the barrel fully extended.
Of course, cost is a factor with the extender compared to the 100-400 lens.
I am probably most concerned about image quality, but so far I'm very happy with what the 70-200 + 1.4x produces.
Thoughts and comments most appreciated.
