So was thinking of getting either this or a 7D2 for myself, but the stories about focus issues with the 7D2 have got me spooked.

Checked FM etc and it seems prices are still hovering around $3500 for a decent used 1DX. I thought prices would start dropping with the new model coming soon.

Any thoughts?

i think your reasoning is great evidence of why they will not fall for a while. Since there are people out there thinking they might grab one, demand actually increases a bit with no increase in supply.

Once the new cameras are shipping and users are happy with the finished product, used supply will increase, people will start buying and once the initial demand for a used 1DX falls a bit, then prices will fall.

They are still $4000 new. And the mark II hasn't come out yet. So it may be a while for prices to drop.

I'm seeing 4600 new from BH and Amazon. May I ask where you are seeing $4k?

lots of listing at $3500 or above and NONE of them had been sold at FM. Lots had been sold at $3000 to $3100. Be patient. Few had been sold on ebay at $2800 to $2900. I wouldn't pay more than 3K for it. It will drop down more.

You can buy a brand-new Canon USA Canon 1D X right now for $3,821 plus approx $38 for shipping.

As for used prices, I would not pay more than $3,000.

Cheers,
Bryan

Brand new from where? Non-MAP? I've bought my 1DX "factory refurbished" last summer from a small dealer through FBA (fulfilled by Amazon) and had to send it back because it was anything but (there was absolutely no Canon factory involved in the refurbishment). Not dealing with small-time dealers ever again after that experience.
