Here are a few of my better attempts at getting a bigger prop blur. I usually shoot at 1/160, which seems to generally give a good compromise between prop blur, and getting a good shot. Sometimes I will take it down some, but that is usually for helicopters. these are the fixed wing shots though.

Sbach 300s of the Red Bull Matadors team, these two have both been winners of the Red Bull Air Race series in the past.

One of the issues with slower shutter speeds and aerobatic aircraft with roll rates that will reach 540 Deg/second (90 RPM) is that the wings will also show some roll blur.

It's also interesting to see the axis of rotation, and this was at a relativly fast IMO 1/100s.

Being an instructor with the ATC I was able to get this shot of my daughter during startup when she went for her first experience flight with No 5 Air Experience Flight at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire. Both London and Cambridge UAS units also fly the Grob Tutor from this base.

I could not just got out an pick one out of these.
More than well done.

Here is one from the 2015 Redbull Air Races in Fort Worth Texas. As Alan mentioned above you can see the axis of rotation here as the plane is flying through the chicane. Talk about the need to perfect your panning skills... :-) I wish I would have had the new 100-400 out there. The 70-300 was just a little short.

This is just superb. I love this aircraft and this image just defines the awesomeness of the airframe. Well done.

Great shots.
I hate seeing frozen props.
I often find head on shots hard to get sharp due to the near zero panning ability which means the aircraft often moving forward faster than the shutter speed. Unless of course it's A2A.
