Even though my Zeiss 2/135 is a superior optic in terms of sharpness and minimized CA, I have always held the Canon 135L in the highest regard. AFAIK only the 200 f/2L has a more sublime bokeh and there is just something oh-so-special about the rendering. So, I am thinking about switching things up there - would certainly be easier to use for portraits.

Jocau will chime in to remind me of my Zeiss 135mm history, which is a solid point of course, but my counter is: a. the 135L has been on my wishlist for years and year, b. the lighter weight and AF means I will actually use it a lot more. I'll always keep my Otus - love that thing, but I think I'm ready to let it stand as my only Zeiss lens.

No solid plans, just thinking at this point...but I might order one in from B&H and see what I think. I can always return it, but it would give me a chance to use it side-by-side with the Zeiss and I can keep what I like better. :)

It's good enough for Elena Shumilova (external link), so probably good enough for me... ;)

It is obviously a FL thing, but according the slrgear.com, the Canon 135L at F4 is sharper than the Otus 55 at F4. This is not speaking to all the other very important qualities that make a lens a good lens - but it is a good sharp lens - dated but good.

In terms of the 200F2, it feels huge and clunky and loud by comparison - it is an indoor hockey lens in my opinion - and the Sony is not quit ready for that duty yet. I tired and it just doesn't work for fast sports.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

It's your call in the end, so you should do what you think is best. If you never use your Zeiss 2/135 because of it being manual focus only/heavy, then the 135L makes a lot more sense. I would prefer the better optics (quality over quantity). But that's because I shoot stationary subjects. The pictures taken by Elena Shumilova (external link) are awesome, but when looking at them, a lot of them could have easily been taken with a manual focus 135mm F/2 lens.

That's why I'm so intrigued by the Samyang 135mm F/2. Not that much worse than the Zeiss 2/135 (even better in some regards) and easily beating the 135L. But at the same time very, very affordable.

So I went ahead and ordered the Sigma Art 35/1.4. I want to put it head to head with my CV 35/1.7 as soon as it arrives, so I can decide which one to keep.
The CV is great in that it's small, light, and super sharp. It lacks AF and has some field curvature. So of course, there are pros and cons.
The Sigma is big, heavy but has AF and is also very sharp. If the Sigma wins, I'll probably sell the CV. I do not want to keep multiple lenses in the same FL anymore. As it is, if I count the zooms, I have a boatload of 35s. The Canon EF 16-35L/4, the EF 24-105L/4, the FE 24-70/4, the CV 35/1.7 and now the Sigma 35/1.4.
My goal is to get rid of all the duplication going forward.
I will probably always want to keep the EF 16-35/4 since it's my favorite lens and does a lot of things I can't do with other lenses (takes filters, go to 16mm, etc) but the other 2 are superfluous.
I would ideally love to conduct a similar exercise at different focal lengths.
Right now I have some redundant glass, even in primes:
24mm: Would like one fast prime. Right now I have the FD 24/2.8.
35mm: As discussed above.
50mm: Would like a fast prime (Sigma Art 50? FE 55?)
85/90mm: Currently I have the FE 90 macro and the SY 85/1.4. Should only keep one.
135: Currently have the FD 135/2. I kinda want to try the Canon EF 135/2 and the SY 135/2. Then keep one.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

I will compare the results i get with the 85mm wide open sharp wise and bokeh, if they are about the same, i will let go the longer size SY135.

Man, I thought I traded gear too often! :P

I put a bid on a Voigtlander 40/1.4 today... I doubt I'll get it since I don't want to pay over $275, but figured it'd be worth a try  I'm tempted to be the test dummy for the new SLR Magic 50mm f1.1 if I don't get the Voigtlander.

Finally made myself shoot today. It's been far too long. Nothing very exciting. These were more about playing around with processing.

Blame Sony for releasing the 85F1.4 :p. I wanna be like Dani Diamond who only bring a couple of lenses in a photoshoot. A Nikon 85mm F1.4G and a Sigma 50Art. But like 95% of his shots are with the 85mm. You can see it on his 500px.

How fun it is for him to shoot with a very minimal gear and blew a lot of other photographers who carry around ton of lenses and lighting equipments in a shoot? I actually asked him in facebook, he said it's so much fun. He shoots with natural light most of the time, like 99%.

I can understand that, but I don't think it really matters which 2 lenses those would be, you use what feels best for your style ;)

I usually only have 3 lenses with me on any given shoot, I love having a small and light kit :)

Do most of you guys think that the SY 135mm is just as good as the canon 135L? You guys think the bokeh (especially), sharpness, contrast are similar or very different

I'm interested in hearing the reply to that question as well. I know Vin swears by his WY 135. But again, no AF. So I'm not sure which way to go.

I used to own the 135L, I can say IMHO, the Samyang rocks more assuming you nail the focus. Very clean result, Zero CA of any color. Maybe not so ideal with a quick moving kids. With the 135L I relied so much on every beep(AF Confirmation) on my 5D3 only to find out when I'm in front of my computer, many of it were out of focus.

the SY looks better than the 135L.
