now that I got the Sigma 150-600 sport, I like the lens, but its damn heavy.

I would like to get some other cheaper smaller telephoto, what would you guys recommend?

I'm looking at:
Sigma 50-500 OS
Canon 70-300 DO IS
Tamron 70-300 VC

Im hoping the new 2x converter is spectacular then I just have to add it to the FE70-200 and other then F8 dont have to worry about additional weight or space.

Oh i thought samyang 135mm got version 2 already. Lol

I think the only Samyang lens to ever get a second version is the 8mm f3.5... they came out with a second version of that with a removable lens hood. They have been coming out with versions of their older lenses with AE chips on them for EXIF data, but I wouldn't count those as "v2" lenses.

Speaking of SY, after years of being on my wishlist I went ahead and ordered up a 14mm. Want to do some night sky photography and that's been a favorite choice of many for that application.

I've had Sigma 50-500, currently have Tamron 70-300. No experience with the 70-300 DO.
How much 'cheaper' do you want. I know you want lighter-one reason I didn't even look at the Sport.
I can highly recommend the Tamron 150-600 and sell the heavy Sport you will end up using sparingly do to the weight.
I keep the Tam 150/600 on an SLT a77ii all the time. Here is example why-
https://www.flickr.com …4839920679/in/dateposted/ (external link)
Mine is in the a-mount but I have used it with the LAEA-3 on the A7Rii.
Back to your choices.
I sold the Sigma 50-500, never really satisfied with image quality.
The Tamron 70-300 I bought for when I'm hiking to do landscape but want options in the bag. My 70-300
is EOS mount so that applies to hiking with say a 6D or 'boned A7Rii
The IQ of the Tam 70-300 in my eye is equal to the Sig 50-500 but at a much better price and weight and size point.
I bought my Tam 70-300 cheap via Digitalrev=no USA warranty but at this price its a no brainer:
http://www.digitalrev.com …-sp-af-70-300mm/MTMyNzQ_A (external link)
In my opinion it works better in a-mount adapted than with Metabones BUT it does OK with Metabones too, does
hunt at 300mm, quick at 70 (same situation with my 100-400ii last time I updated and I might be behind). I havent
used it in a while on the a7Rii but did a quick test inside and inside does hunt at 300, quick at 70. If you want I can
test outside tomorrow.
If I really needed 70-300 for the A7Rii I'd also look at the SAL 70-300 but I ended up with the 70-400gii and
am very pleased with it.

Last night it was clear out so I fixed my inability to focus to infinity on mine. Took 10 mins so once you test yours bare I'm mind there's an easy fix if you have an issue. I can give you a how to guide

Who wants to drool with me on the 85GM. bye bye 135 when i get my hands on this... More closer to the subject, more engage, the more i like it. and still having a great bokeh on a shorter telephoto.

Geez colors look great out of that lens.

I wouldn't part with the 135 though! An 85 can't replaced the compressed FOV of a 135!

I do have the 70-200 2.8L II so I could add a 2x to do, it does work...

and buying FE70-200 is not really cheap, the 2.8 will cost 2500+

I do like my 150-600 Sport, I just sold the Tamron 150-600 yesterday, Tammy was fine but soft at 600mm and not weather sealed.

Sigma 50-500 has a appeal of that 50 on wide
I did own the Tamron 70-300 before and IQ was ok, didn't have much complains about.
I do like the idea of 70-300 DO, its pretty small, IQ is ok, back in the day when they sold for 1000+ it wasn't so interesting, but now you can pick them up on ebay for 300-400.

I was also looking at the 70-300L.

Isn't the SAL70-300 motorless? and requires the adapter with mirror?

If you don't mind testing 100-400II outside that would be helpful.
