I collect watches, many of them divers. Those seals probably need to be changed every so often. The all dry, harden and crack.

I have divers watches as well from Rolex and Breitling. The seals only need to be replaced when the watches are serviced, which is every 4 to 5 years or longer. The difference of course is that, unlike a divers watch, these cameras are never submerged and are not under the pressure of 20 to 150 atmospheres. The seals will last the life of the camera.

Not to turn this into a watch thread, but I've had bezel seals dry out before. Never submerged under pressure.

To me this new 80D looks really good on paper, 24MP would be really nice when I'm so often FL limited even at 600mm. I just wish they hadn't gone down market with the move from CF to SD cards, which I detest with a passion as I seem to be able to distroy them with a single touch. I also find the control layout totally unintuative. The all button xxxD are OK as is the twin dials/joystick of the older bodies, and the 5/7D series. There were a lot of other little things in the change from the 50D to the 60D that I didn't really go for either. Things like removing the PC socket. Being able to trigger the flash with a cable when working with stobes in industrial areas with lots of RFI that kills the radio triggers is one example.

I know they are old complaints, but still I feel valid

They split and moved the XXD line upmarket to the 7D, so really, 50D users need the 7D/7DII bodies to be happy.

Bent a CF pin in my 50D.. quite pissed me off. Was pleased to go to SD cards with the 60D.
50D was chunky feeling to my hands, joystick was a stretch.
60D Auto ISO in Manual mode was very welcome.
Did not need the 7D to be 'happy'. Wow, were you buying in to a Canon 7D marketing campaing that anything else (less?) Would be unsatisactory?

80D looks a nice upgrade but I am not sold yet. Awaiting real world reviews... have captured some of my best images with the 70D. No slouch.

Lol, if you didn't like the 50D because it was too "chunky feeling" or because the "joystick was a stretch," then you wouldn't like the 7D/7DII, so my statement still holds true, irrespective of whatever you deem is marketing.

I think the xxd line is the perfect size camera for my hands. It is also a nice balanced weight. Everyone is different.

My point is simply that those disappointed with any changes from 50D to 60D should remember that Canon split the XXD line into the 60D and 7D which didn't exist prior to this time and cater to two separate APS-C customers.

Yeah, agreed. One of the bigger Canon marketing f*^%ups was that they called the 60D a 60D like it inferred an upgrade to the 50D in all ways. Certainly I concede the 60D was a step down in a few feature respects (should have kept the AF microadjust, for example).

Nikon is just as guilty of this - see the D750. I didn't like the 60D either for that reason. But I prefer the 7DII, 5DIII and 1DX, so I'm not bothered much by the xxd series.

I remember my 60D fondly. It was my first DSLR and I got my first printable bird photo with it (a barred owl).

I also like my 70D as well. My wife has adopted it as her own and is using it for documenting the kitchens she sells, so it isn't just sitting around.

I loved my 7D2... the feel, its abilities, etc. I was ultra content until it stopped working properly. It was eventually replaced by Canon but I kept the 1D IV I had purchased when the 7D2 was going back and forth to Canon. I sometimes wonder if I made the right choice, but I'm getting a very high percentage of keepers from the 1D IV and I love the colors. I have to say, like Goldilocks, the 1D IV feels just right.

Absolutely. Get what makes you happy. This isn't a contest. The 80D may be a perfect upgrade for you from the 60D.
