Well, it just got real. :-) I sold my 5DIII today, so I guess I am officially a Sony convert now. Even though I haven't used my Canon on the past several shoots I have done, it has always been there as a backup. Looking forward to new and exciting things with the A7RII, (and A6300 as my backup).

OK, so I re-tested the lenses today and unfortunately did not like what im seeing with the TSE 24 II on the sony. I tested the TSE, Sy 24 and 16-35 @ 24mm from the same setup. Uncompressed RAW. IBIS OFF. Manual focus on the building in the distance at the centre of the frame. ISO 100. Aperture priority.

The TSE shots look ok at 100% in lightroom and sharpen up ok. When you zoom to 200% though the TSE shots look pixelated and mushy. Now I know what you are thinking, you dont view images at 200% but thats not the point. The other two lenses hold up at that magnification and I cant work out why the TSE doesnt.

Could it be that the camera is out resolving the TSE lens? (I always thought this out resolving chat was a load of rubbish when I heard people saying it but its the only thing I can think off)

HERE (external link) are the 3 images at f/8 for comparison

That was what i thought too. The TSE24 has a very high reputation and I clearly saw why. It was amazing on the 6D. But everytime I used it on the A7R I was not pleased with it so I think it must be this, unless David A. Who used it on a 5DS if I remember correctly tells us something different...

For those of you who, like me, rely on Canon glass and use a Metabones... Do yourself a favor and make sure to have a backup adapter handy.

Metabones is the best, granted, but I had my first "Maybe I need to go all native" experience while doing a paid theatre shoot last night. No problem with the camera or lenses, but the frickin adapter went belly up on me. Near the start of the shoot, I pressed the WO button on the side as usual, and this time it didn't pop back out. Permanently pressed in now. Aperture control still worked, no EXIF, no AF. Fortunately I also have a DEO Saker Falcon Lite (which I'm not thrilled with - bad build quality, sketchy performance with some lenses, flat-out bad performance with others - and if you don't fully turn off the camera with each lens change it can lose it's mind - ugh). So I'm not dead in the water exactly, but now I've got to ship my MB to Hong Kong and wait.

I'd said before that I had no intention of swapping out my 24-70Lii for the 24-70GM, but now I'm starting to rethink that position.

David, Could I ask a favour of you. Can you take a test shot at f/8 with your FD Tilt shift orientated like my shot so that I can see how the RAW looks on the A7RII? Trying to think of options here as it looks like the TSE 24 II is not good on the Sony

I'm not having a good week

I've been excited about the voightlander 10mm but at 1300 usd and this video I'm thinking that I'll live with my 15mm even though I see them as very different lenses. This video shows distortion starting well before the edges https://vimeo.com/156678222 (external link)

I'm sticking with the Sony. The reality is setting in though that the tse lens needs to go. The a7rii is good with my other lenses and I couldn't give up the likes of the sigma 85 now. I'm wondering if the samyang tilt shift is worth a try

I'm also wondering if I could take arch shots at 16mm in portrait mode and stitch multiple images together then crop but that could be a pita

Sorry I'm late to the party as usual.
It may not fulfill the last requirement but if your friends are willing to pool their funds, Tenba's recently introduced Cooper line of bags is definitely worth a look.
http://www.tenba.com/collections/cooper.aspx (external link)

In fact, I saw the bags on display at B&H last week and ended up getting myself the 13DSLR model. Depending on whether you carry a laptop or a tablet, my recommendation based on your description would be Cooper 13Slim or Cooper 8. They're very well thought-out and they do not scream out "Camera Inside!" I could see myself using the bag in every occasion from full casual to even black-tie event. Based on my body dimensions, any bag exceeding 15" in width begins to be a pain to carry and something that can hold a DSLR without appearing too thick (identified as depth in the specs) that they begin to protrude out of the body would be ideal. At B&H, I asked to borrow the 5DIII and stuck it in the display bag with my 13" laptop and both the 13DSLR and 13Slim accommodated them without bulging out uncomfortably.

I've always thought Tenba's bags were dowdy and unfashionable but they've made some nice bags in the recent years. Cooper collection is great in every way, well, except for the price.

Picking up on this conversation i had both the Tenba Cooper 13 Slim and the Peak Design bag yesterday. I was very impressed with the Tenba Cooper. The quality is phenomenal and it is a really well thought out bag. I decided to send the Peak Design bag back. Once you have the cooper next to it you can really see a quality difference. I would recommend the Tenba to anyone who wants to carry an A7 camera with 2-3 lenses. Haven't been impressed with a camera bag in a long time and this one did it.

Haha...I always say, "Sure, I'll sell at that price, but first I will post it at my price for a few weeks. After that I will lower it some...eventually to your price..." That way they can either wait several weeks or they can have it today for a still truly good price. I've sold a few items to low-ballers simply out-waiting them. :)

Back on topic...just back from taking some test shots with TS-E 24L II on the Chattahoochee with similar framing to Eddie's shots. Took them on both 5DS R and a7R II. Also did a shot on both cameras with the TS-E at a 10mm up-shift. Hopefully will have some dropbox raws available here shortly...

or you can shoot slightly upwards and do distortion correction. I'm not sure how much resolution you'de lose though. I dont have tiltshifts at every focal length, so that's the way I deal with it.

Weird...they came in fine for me.

Eddie, I don't see the same blockiness as yesterday, so I think the IBIS was skewing yesterday's results, but I can certainly see why you aren't happy with the TS-E.
