Grabbed a couple galaxy shots last weekend. M81 and M33. Both captured with my Tamron 15-600mm.

Thanks! Oops, I need new glasses! I moved up to an ioptron IEQ45 Pro last fall. These were 90 second unguided. I have the quidescope but as of yet have not hooked things up, taking it one step at a time for now. I still use my skytracker a lot though, so easy to set up! Here's a couple more...

Very nice! You got lots of nice detail in the dust lanes of M31.

Good detail and capture but in your edit you seem to have lost some star colors . Perhaps maybe too much sharpening ?

I think stretching the histogram was killing all my star colors. Went with a different method using Pixinsight. M81 and M82.

I think this one qualifies for this thread... I didn't even use a tripod, just propped it on an upstairs window sill. I should have used a longer exposure and a lower ISO, though. It turned out kinda grainy. But sunsets won't wait for anyone to reset the camera.

I think this is the first time I've seen Mercury, and had to check on Stellarium to be sure.

This was taken with a Nikon D5200, with a 55 - 200mm lens, set at 100mm. 1/8th of a second - f:5.0 - ISO 8000

So, relizing I left my setup outside at night, I decided, what the heck...

I tried imagining some stars.
I did not relize you can actually see nebulas on the screen!
I was pointing to what I thought was Orion's belt, however using the mobile version of Stellarium, I found out I was "South" of the belt.

Is this is M42?
Doesn't look like it from any photos I can find.
Shrug, my niece and I had fun with this anyhow.

Oh, GH4, ISO 1600, 2.5s, f3.4, Canon 100-400L @ 400, Metabones 0.64 XL Speedbooster.

Yeah, I couldn't get a good focus trying manually.
I am definately gonna try this some more.

Yes. Note the side by side double arcs of three stars above the nebula in both pictures.

Yes, M42 (the Orion Nebula) is a naked-eye object. Through some magnification it's more dramatic. Through a telescope you can easily see the nebula with no long camera exposures needed.

A good image requires a bit of HDR work because the outer regions that you normally see in those dramatic images require much longer exposures -- but those exposures will blow-out the core area.
