Any of you guys 85mm 1.2 owners as well? Which do you prefer?

Yes, have the 85mm f1.2 II as well. Also an excellent lens, but sometimes a little long in tight spaces. Hence the need for the 50mm 1.2.

I have the 85/1.2 as well. I have it because it's one of the ultimate portrait lenses. But I'm an idiot gear-whore and I don't shoot professionally. So I must admit, I haven't really taken it out to shoot much at all.

The 50L is more versatile compared with the 85/1.2. (or 85mm focal length in general)

I have both, 85/1.2 is stellar, but heavy and slow and a difficult focal length.

I had both sold the 50L. If I didn't think there was a new 50L coming or if the 50 has sharp at 1.2, I would have kept the 50.

I love the 50 - it creates truly unique one of a kind images.

I also only sold it because I picked up the new 35L II which has sort of that 50L quality.

If I could have a new 50L I would take it 100x more than the 85 because it is way easy to use.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

50L and 85L: though close in focal length and they share an f/1.2 aperture, they are two very different lenses. For me, the 50mm focal length is best for general purpose use, while the 85mm length is too tight (and 35mm is too wide :) ).

Comparing the 50L to the 85L II, the 50L has faster AF, shorter MFD, smaller + lighter weight, weather sealing. The 85L is sharper and gives better subject background separation and smoother bokeh. Really, the 85L is one of the best; the 50L can't match its IQ, but that isn't reason to choose one over the other because they have such different use cases.

a hot mess.

I'll try to post the color version (if I remember to do so) later tonight. I don't expect to get home until 9:30-10pm today. (sigh).
