I think they'll roll out the 5DsR2 with 1DXII's sensor DR tech. I think the 5DsR was rushed/delayed a bit and should have been released earlier as Canon's large-megapixel "answer" to the D800.

i dont think so. Nikon surprised everyone by chasing the mp and canon wasnt expecting it.

I am not sure how the 5d4 will come into play?

Maybe they should not bother with the 5d4 and just go with a 6dmk2 ?

The more i think of it. the more sense

I won't buy a 6D2, but would consider a 5D4. I want the ruggedness and controls and AF and dual slots of the 5D3, and cannot use the 6D for what I shoot (and also don't want to, and since it's my money, Canon would lose a sale if they cancel the 5D line).

I think the 5DS R was just a spin-off - not something that necessarily has anything to bear on the 5D IV. It is admittedly confusing though. :)

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. They split the line between 5D and 5DS/R.

They're not cancelling anything.

Given that the 5Ds had essentially the 5D3 body (missing the extra control around the joystick on the 7D2) I can't help but wondering if it was actually in gestation for a long time, or was a short notice rush to get a new sensor out.

it does.

6d line = d750 line

5dsr(no more 5d4) = d800/d810 line

Think about it!

one ff camera for sport(1dx) one for high res(5dsr) and one for all round budget(6d)

Makes a lot of sense

No, it doesn't. As a D700/D3 user who picked up Canon for the 5D3, the D800/810 vs. D600/D610/D750 (D90/D7000/7100/7200-style bodies) never made any sense. The D500 shows a return to roots to pro-grade bodies without neutering. Now it's on Nikon's end to follow up with the true D710/D700 successor. This is coming from the same perspective of Thom Hogan, a revered Nikon shooter and third-party analyst. http://www.dslrbodies.com …re-should-be-a-nikon.html (external link)

1DX/C/2 - sport - D3/4/s/5
5D3/4 - journalism (all-rounder) - D700
1Ds/5DsR - studio - D800/10
6D - entry-level ff - D600/610/750

Makes zero sense to me and I own 2 5DSRs.

If you are a working events pro, you can use a 6D or a 5DSR but neither are optimal - even a new updated version of both these cameras is not going to give you what most events people want - that is 2 5D4s with either a 24-70 or 35 prime on one and a 70-200 or 85 prime on the other.

For the 5DSR to be a main camera, even with a next gen sensor in it, it needs way better bigger buffers - in a fast moving environment the Camera is too slow. And the 6D is a single memory slot camera which most wedding people feel very uncomfortable with - I would and have used my 7D2 way before I would use a 6D at a wedding.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Same here. For me the 5D3 is the "Goldilocks" body; not 1D money (or weight), not tiny and plasticy, not too high MP, not too low fps, not lacking in controls (e.g. joystick) etc etc. It's a perfect all-rounder. More of the same (but better) for a Mk 4 please.

I'm not sure how it works with test cameras versus early production units, etc.

My guess is that most or all of the pre-production units have been called back and Canon is probably pulling a few early production units from the line to test, either in-house or in the field. I.e. they are starting to work with the real thing rather than prototypes. To me this means that there are probably fewer play cameras out there to get info from.

The 80D I tried out was a prototype / verification build device. The 1DXII was a validation build early production device.

Can you explain what verification build vs validation build means?

If it's like the software world I live in the verification build is where they make sure that the line is set up right and what's coming off it is assembled properly. The validation is proving that what's coming off of it is production ready - i.e. it's tested to work properly.

Interesting the way different companies handle this process.
I'm awaiting a pre-order Leica 100-400mm for my GX8 and supposedly it is less than
2 weeks from shipping in the US and way way small amounts of info out there. Sometimes
I don't think Panasonic cares too much about their American market whereas Canon seems
to give Americans quite a bit to chew on.
