I love the feel of these "street" picts

Madrid recently. We wandered out after dark. The inky black is water around some tomb near the presidential palace I think.

Nice photos Dave - I especially like the Cafe Comercial one ... I never got to have a coffee there before it closed*. No. 4 is great too and the shot of Gran Via captures some of the locura (madness) that it is. A friend of mine lives right above the Toledano shop.

The Tomb is an Egyptian temple that was moved to Madrid brick by brick as a gift from Egypt for Spain's support during the Suez crisis, at least that's what I was told. There's two palaces nearby - the Palacio Real which is Royal, although defunct as a residence; and La Moncloa, where the president lives ... when we have one.

Glad you like them. The closure of the cafe seemed a bit odd considering that it was so popular. Looked like a place with a lot of history and character. Gran Via and Plaza del Sol were great places for people watching - but the backstreets of Madrid were also interesting.

Vilimo, thanks for the comment. The palace is beautiful, hard not to get a good shot of it but lucked out with the afterglow of sunset!

Did you go into Ardosa? The food's great.

No, didn't have time - day trips to Segovia and Toledo and the rest of the tim mooching around Madrid
