Yep, the claims that it is essentially on Otus seem to be true. I'm loving it -- and I have the Canon 135mm f2 which is also one or my fav lenses.

The Canon has a slight edge in bokeh, although the Zeiss is very close, but the Zeiss is king when it comes to sharpness, color, micro contrast and lack of fringing/CA.

An older one from this summer, back when I was testing my new 135mm.

These photos are fantastic and really pushing me to pull the trigger on this lens! I have the 36mp D810 and can't wait to put that resolving power to work.

My one hesitation is the manual focus. I have some limited experience using manual focus on live view for night shots/landscape, but less so hand held. I know the throw is super long and precise and hopefully a little easier to acclimate to, but did anyone get this lens without much MF experience and find that it was not too difficult to pick up? (Sorry if this post is in the wrong forum, but I figured I would go right to the source - if so, feel free to PM me).

Thanks,

Josh

Congrats on the purchase. :) The lens is by far the best glass I own or have ever shot. The MF... takes a little work/practice but it isn't horrible. Think about all the great photographs made by photographers prior to AF... if they could do... so can we :) It's super sharp... colors are spot on.. F/2.0 is amazing... and best part... NO CA!!!

Congrats again and post some shots when you get a chance.

Hatch

Will do and thanks, Hatch. With your shots, amongst others posted in this thread, I definitely have a lot to aspire to with it.

I have a few Zeiss lenses and use them mostly with my 1Ds iii which has the ability to use different focusing screens. The ability to change focusing screens helps but the focus confirmation light/beep works very well. For my macro work, I use Live View 10x and a Hoodman loupe for very accurate focusing. Regardless, focus confirmation is my most used method for manual focus and I came from the MF, film era.

The 135/2 will be my next Zeiss ZE purchase in the spring. Don't shy away from tremendous Zeiss glass because of MF.
