My wife and I made our first trip of the spring season to the Montezuma National Wildllfe Refuge in upstate NY. Still lots of ice around, and the Wildlife Drive through the refuge hasn't opened yet. There were lots of snow geese as well as tundra swans, mallards, black ducks, pintails, and American widgeon. The bonus species was a nice male ring-necked pheasant we spotted in some corn stubble, haven't seen a rooster in years! We expect to make several more visits in coming weeks as the ice melts in hopes of seeing the smaller ducks and lots of muskrat activity. Enjoy!
