Canon 50mm f1.2 IS L version 2

Do anyone know if this coming out this year?

Considering that it's not a current lens... I don't think anyone is going to know anything

I'd be willing to bet that Canon never releases a 1.2 IS... 1.4 IS on the other hand, wouldn't put it past them to release this soon...

I hope they release a version with a floating lens element soon.
I'm one of the few that could not live with the focus shift or RSA as it's known.

Well, they certainly won't release a 50 f/1.2L IS II this year, because that would mean first releasing the 50 f/1.2 L IS, and then immediately following it up with version 2 within 6 months.

Now, as to whether they will release a 50 f/1.2 L II, or 50 f/1.2L IS, or a 50 f/1.4 L IS, is anyone's guess. I'd vote "reasonably possible", but I haven't seen anything suggesting it's immediately imminent.

Let's face it there has been talk of a new version of the 50 f/1.2,1.4,1.8 coming since I bought my first Canon DSLR in 2005 (I shot Pentax K Mount before that). We have now had the 1.8 updated, and by all accounts the new STM is a decent upgrade on the old Mk II.

Given the third party releases over the last few months one would hope that Canon had an update for the 1.4 in the works at least.

if you are put off of the thought of getting one because of all the negative talk of the current version, keep in mind that the new one will likely be more expensive, even with no IS, I will expect it to be at least 500 more. Also there have been rumors about a new model for the last 5 years, just get a used one and see if it's for you. That way you don't lose money if you don't like it. I love mine! A dream come true after many years!

500 is a estimate. its nothing certain. there really isn't any new 50 1.2 on the horizon. no rumors, specs, patents, leaks... its all a guessing game. you are probably going to wait years for "the most current one"

if you are that worried, why don't you get the tamron 45 1.8 VC? supposed to be awesome...

The 50L is not that old. Focus shift....never see this illusive trait and I use this lens a lot. If you want a fast 50mm, get the Sigma Art.

The 50L is a great lens. Understand how it works and how to get great images using it and it will be one of your most used lens. Use this lens the wrong way and you'll keep sending it to Canon Service, get beyong frustrated and post many messages on photo forums asking when ver 2 of the 50L will be announced.

IMHO, Best guess for a 50L ii is 2022 - 2025.

What on earth would IS even do on a f1.2L? Seeing most people buy a f1.2 lens to use wide open and at f1.2 the DOF is so shallow that the IS will likely cause focus issues at f1.2 and then everyone will be complaining about "Sharp Copies" etc because their tiny DOF was jolted when the IS stops and messes up whatever they focused on and then their 1/8000th second shot was ruined.

I honestly can't see Canon ever making a f1.2 IS lens. Seriously people learn to shoot and use a tripod in low light. You'd be amazed.

that says its a MK II, not a IS. plus that was wrote in april 2015...

Yeah I wasn't stating it was IS. Just posting the article for the subject of a II on the way soon. I would honestly be pretty upset because i just bought a 50 1.2 lol
