Battery question, the new battery for the 1DXii and/or previous 1D series batteries.
How long do you think the batteries will stay charged with no intervention.
The boss is scheming a trip for next year and for weeks there will be no access to anything resembling
a plug in.....got plenty of time for self discovery of the above question but curious from current 1DX owners.
So basically can you full up the charge on the battery and still have use 3-5 weeks later?

I believe I read 1500 shots on a full charge and he still had 1/4 battery left from Andy Rouse

While we're on the topic of batteries, I'm assuming 3rd party options aren't available for the 1D series? I just noticed that an extra battery will set me back $169. Yikes!

I can't do a shoot with just one battery.

I'm dropping $6K on the body, I've got $10K+ in lenses, $4K+ in lighting and modifiers, $1K+ in support, $1K+ in filters, etc. The Pelican case I put much of this stuff in cost $200+.

$169 for a battery is in the noise...

That said, they do seem expensive for what they are, don't they! ;)

Since you can still use LP-E4 and E4N, there are some aftermarkets out for those.

Having a few of these as emergency backups at $25 each seems like a good idea. I wouldn't run these as the mains though.

Quality LiOn cells only self discharge around 5% per year at room temp.

I hear ya Erik and I know what you mean, but man, $170 is steep for a battery. But that is how Canon is with their accessories.

Thanks Jake! I've been using Wasabis in my other cameras for years and I like them too. I think what I'll do is eventually pick up one extra official Canon battery and then perhaps one of the Wasabis in the link you provided. Granted, the current model Wasabi will only power the 1D X MII to 12 frames per second, but there are plenty of shooting situations where I don't need 14 fps, so it will work just fine as the third battery in the bag.

Thanks for the feedback!
Bryan

Lots of people here say the same... so I ordered a Wasabi for my 1D IV... it over heated the second time I charged it and wouldn't take more than a 60% charge.

I resorted to the expensive default: Canon... as much as it pained me.

It's probably just a freak thing. Wasabi has an excellent reputation.

I decided on the new 1Dx MkII as expenses have been low lately .... and the darn transmission on the truck went out today. Fate?

^sorry about the transmission :( I have a bud, same fate, when he saw the price of the fix he just bought an old used truck with 150K miles....he's got over 300K miles on it now and is like me in that his camera/lens is worth way more than his vehicle...just thinking out loud.

That is a great idea on the Wasabis. I can see owning 2 of the new EOS batteriess for the 1DXii and I can understand a pro making a living needs more, and truth is for a vacation the boss is scheming I'd only need burst capability for the three day festival and even during that the eagles aren't flying constantly.

Now I'm trying to find the DC adapter/plug-in for vehicle for the 1DXii. So far I can only find a generic AC adapter for constant supply:

Ill just say this...my 5D3 is for sale..

After a few min with the new 1DX Mark II, its not a joke. A step up for sure over the 1DX, which I have used just never had, Canon has made an amazing hybrid camera. I know alot of people are saying it wont fir for video and its to much for a stills camera and thats fine but its not meant for everyone. I shoot action sports and just wow.. the 4K with AF worked great and the Stills side is was crazy with how fast AF was and how well it tracked. I can see this camera fitting the bill for some many things. For video it will be great, yes RED is king but you cant take a RED in a downpour of rain ( just one example of why DSLR are still a great B camera)

Man, that looks so sexy!
While I can buy it if I really want it, but can't justify spending so much on a body as I could get so much more for same cash :-(
That said, who knows, I might end up getting one ;-)a

There is some great cameras out there for cheaper that will fit alot of people but if your shooting any sports or wildlife, or doing cinema type work that needs a small form factor.... hard to not say this will work perfect.
